Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ultegra/Aluminum Frames?

Do companies make Ultegra equipped aluminum bikes anymore? I'm planning on having around 2 grand to spend next summer for a new bike and wanted to make the jump from Tiagra to Ultegra. Any way to do that on a new bike in my budget?

Try bikes direct website, may find a carbon fiber frame with ultegra, unless you WANT Aluminum.

I have one from BD for 1100...I may not have a CAAD or a Trek decal....but I pass them all the time. It has done me well and saved me $900 to customize. Works for me. Ultegra is flawless. GL

BMC I believe. Got a brand new Kuota Kharma carbon full 105 (that i sold obviously) for 1600 like 4 years ago. Awesome deal for that bike.

Check Competitive cyclist too, they are having good deals now in full bikes but probably they arent selling anything in aluminum but full TT bikes.

funny I just ***** SLAPPED MY 205lb friend on his ultegra equipped madone 5.2 yesterday. I'm 240lbs riding on a mostly ultegra aluminum Bikes direct bike. you can easily get a full carbon bikes direct bike for what you are looking to spend with ultegra or you can spend $1000 and get ultegra on an aluminum frame from them. If you don't like it, strip the group and find a name brand frame to appease your ego

As they mentioned, CAAD10 allow you to go all the way to Dura Ace if you want
CAAD10 1 Dura-Ace
CAAD10 2 Ultegra
CAAD10 4 Rival
CAAD10 5 105

Which makes me wonder, what the heck happened to CAAD10 3?

You mis-read - the CAAD10 3 is the (mostly) Ultegra version.

Bikes: Motobecane Le Champ Ti

bikesdirect full ultegra bike and if you must have CAAD then get the frame only and sell the BD one and you'll still be ahead.

Thank goodness. You've finally answered the age old question of whether it's the rider or the bike.

I have the Scattante (Performance) R-670, about 1500 miles so far, very happy with it.

Competive Cyclists featured bike Wilier has a Sram Rival group on a CF frame for less than 2K shipped to your door. I just got mine and it is a real nice step up from my aluminum Trek with Sora/Tiagra components.

That's a nice bike, and right now they're selling it for $1,149.

I'm confused as to what you're even saying and how it's relevant.

If you do buy from Performance, don'y forget to join their buyers club. It cost $30 and you get an additional 10% in buying points, so on a $1,200 bike that's another $120.00 enough to buy computer, bottle cages, pump, tubes, and other accessories.
