Recovering from Chaffing
Did a ride yesterday and used chaffing cream but still got chaffing a little. Decided to go out this morning, used chaffing cream and got a lot of chaffing (or perhaps the area was irratated).
My question.... is there something you can use overnight that will help heal the area so you dont get the issue the next day? |
Desitin cream (for diaper rash) works wonders. Seriously.

I never really have any chafing problems. I don't make it so tight down there. The boys should be touching the skin and not be confined so much around the chamois. If the boys are sizable and there is all this extra padding between them and the leg, things are gonna rub. Give them some freedom.
To prevent skin to skin rub irritation, I put some honey there. I know it's not conventional or you've never even heard of it, but for me it works. Honey has some great antibacterial and lubricating properties and also healing (<<<OP!!!) properties. Google it. When mixed with sweat, it's not as sticky as you might think. It becomes very slippery. but don't get too off the wall and use microwave melted butter. |
I didn't ever have chafing problems until the day I did. Dang! Ended up with a nasty infection that got to get lanced, almost missed a big ride before I healed. I figger at $16.99 at tube, Chamoisbutt'r (or equiv) is cheap insurance. I don't want an infection down there - it be a nasty place to keep clean and heal up.
Maybe I'm paranoid, but prevention seems the best rule. This hits home for me because (honest), my dad passed away last year from MRSA. Started from a skin infection in the same nether regions of which we speak. |

Aquaphor and cetaphil work wonders.

You should check your bicycle fit and make sure you have a decent saddle.
What kind of distances are you riding? Meanwhile, apply some zinc oxide cream. |

By the way, what other stuff did you try down there, before settling on honey?

Figured it out all by my self, to answer you prev. ?. Ohh and did you know you can exfoliate your hands with orange peel? Just rub it on with all the juices all over your hands and let it dry. Then just wash your hands... Hands feel great afterward.. Came up with that one too... maybe I'm not the only one...but there is this cleaning liquid called Orange Clean .... Just connected the dots. |
