DA Di2 or U Di2?
With prices dropping on the DA Di2 group would you still get U Di2? I know there the reviews said no to DA over U, but with the prices coming down thinking about jumping on board.
norm |
where are the prices coming down? from what i've seen, there's still a pretty big difference between the two.
|
Performance had their sale price and an additional 15% off. I do not see the 15% discount anymore. I could have gotten FD, RD, Shifters and wiring harnesses for $1700. Missed that one, should have it the checkout button. Oh well you snooze you loose. Maybe next time.
|
Shimano stuff has been on sale with varying percentages all year. Some weekends its 20% rewards points, some its 15% off. With Performance, it's "you snooze you lose, until next weekend when we have nearly the same sale". Either way I don't think it indicates a sweeping price drop with Di2, because everywhere else still has it for the same price.

I got a laugh noticing that they were selling one of their in house bikes with a "Compare at" price of $10K. Yeah, riiiiiiiight..... |
I paid about $2300 for the upgrade kit(s) recently, that's much less than they were a year ago. But shop hard enough and maybe you can beat that price.
|
I think performance's most recent sale excluded shimano, but I could be wrong.

Just wait until Performance gets the Ultegra Di2 stuff in stock, maybe spring 2012 they'll have some sales on it. |

Explain. |
i think what it comes down to is that Ultegra is 1 pound heavier, but also has better wiring (all the same size)
so it's a question of what's more important to you |

I'm done with Performance. They had a sale on D/A cranks at an unbelievable price. It was on their web site for several days. I ordered . . . and waited. Waited until finally I received one item and the next day a postcard saying that they canceled the order because they didn't have any stock. WTF? I checked their web site and they had stock coming in within a week. I would have waited for such a fantastic price. I called them ... was put on hold for about five minutes ... and was then told that there was a mistake on the price posted on the web and that they couldn't sell it to me for that, (even though the price was there for several days while I made up my mind. Different computers, so no issue with the page being stored in cache). I'll never purchase from Performance ever again.

Wow, performance has mechanical dura ace for $1529 right now. They only have 175 cranks left. Thats better than the uk prices.

I'm gunna pick the DA every time. The Ultegra DI2 servos are at a different tolerance, consume more power with less accuracy. Battery life is halved. Front shifting is very inferior (a huge selling point on DA Di2) to DA Di2, my guess is to do with the lack of the pretension screw (not a limit screw, you won't know what I'm talking about unless you have it or have built a bike with di2).
2400 odd grams for the groupo is a bit porky IMO. Ultegra Di2 over 6700? Almost, but the front shifting on 6700 would win me over. Buy nice, or buy twice. Then again most people probably think sram red front shifting is amazing, so maybe Ultegra Di2 deserves more consideration. Oh yeah, completely different cables, computer based diagnostics, groupsets/oem equipped bikes debut before shimano releases the diagnostic kit, so yeah. If you have technical issues, we ain't gunna be able to help ya for a couple months. |

LBS told me to wait for UDi2. Superior to DA Di2 he was told by Shimano. Still on the fence. As far as the weight I am going DA mechanical and UDi2 for the electronics(If I go UDi2). If I can find a better price I might jump on DADi2. Do not want to settle for an inferior product.

I don't think so.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpGGrYs62CU Shimano uses a more expensive, custom designed motor for DA Di2. Ultegra uses a more "standard," less expensive motor, which is why it's bulkier and heavier. The sound it makes has nothing to do with how it performs. I love how people are judging its performance when it isn't available. |

Have you had a chance to test ride Ultegra Di2? 6700 shifting is great but I imagine electronic shifting with auto trimming is a vast improvement.
