Be sure to ask the store if they have any take-off saddles. Experiment a little. They normally let you switch them out for free. Also, you mentioned that you have shorts. Quality shorts are worth every penny!

These days I ride on a Selle An-Atomica, but I put a few thousand miles on a Forte Classic before that.

you must have massive guads, capable of cranking it up to 500w and crushing souls.

I have dated a lot of saddles over the years but never found one I could marry until I tried the cheap Merek all CF saddle on Ebay. Bliss on the first ride so I bought another one for the track bike. The 95 and 115 gram have slightly diff shape, the 95 is flatter and my pref.

Understand that soreness comes from you sitting on the muscles that you're using to ride. Find a saddle that allows you to and position yourself so you're actually sitting on the sit bones. If you're confident that you are mostly sitting on just the sit bones, allowing your glutes to work uninhibited, then all you need is to wait until you get used to it.

Late to the thread but... I would suggest some longer than 10 mile rides when your butt is NOT sore, go slow and just stay on the bike for as long as you can. Yes, your arse will be soooore later, but I have found that helps me get my sit bones used to things faster. Also, as has been said, make sure the saddle is the right width. I am a lighter rider, fairly short, but I definitely have wider sitbones at 143ish, and I believe a lot of bikes have the narrower size.

If your saddle hurts after 10 miles you need a better fitting saddle.
If your saddle hurts after 33 miles you need a better quality saddle.

that's iff'n you ride once a week...
but iff'n you ride at least every other day (better to string 2 or 3 days in a row...) - 2 to 3 wks...
the 3 thru 5 day are usually the worst... gets better after that
the first 6 miles are usually the worst - nerve endings go dull...
then never take more than 3 wks away from riding
or you go back to 'start'...

Keep riding. Your arse will hurt until it adjusts. I'm at 264 miles on my new saddle, and I'm still adjusting. It WILL get better as you get more time in the saddle. If you're at 500 miles and your ass still hurts, I'd start looking at getting a new saddle.

There is seriously no point in telling the OP to keep on riding on a saddle that is 1-2 full sizes too small. That is not sane.
Now, when he gets a proper saddle and STILL has some pain... by all means I'll join the HTFU chorus.

Just called a couple LBS and they said they didnt have a way to measure my sit bones. One of them said they would put me in a 146 and see if that worked. I am an average 6'4. What size would you guys recommend for me? 155?

Weird. Specialized and Trek (Bontrager) have the same device basically, a gel impression stool that you sit on. A shop with those brands ought to have it.
Anyway, I respectfully disagree with the 170mm comment / guess. You probably are a 155 but might be 143 if you are and always have been thin.
