Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

A year in

Shopping around at the local bikefest this weekend, I realized it had been a year since I started in on my new addiction (I bought my first road bike at the same event last year). Since then:

2 bikes (the second one an E-bay "backup" purchase, not an upgrade - just yet )
4500 miles
longest single ride 71 miles (hoping for a century in 2012)
3 races (just local training crits - looking forward to racing more seriously next year)
1 crash (not counting two silly clip-out fall-downs)
1 separated shoulder (subtract 6 weeks from bicycling totals)
1 flat (crossing fingers for similar luck next year)
1 replaced tire
1 replaced chain
on wish list for next year: GPS gadget, HRM, new wheels, better sprinting

Joining a race team next year, should be fun. Not looking forward to the cold season with much diminished outside riding opportunities (and lower intensity on my group rides when I do get out).
