Williams wheels: 30 vs 30x (190lbs)
I'm 6'1" and 190lbs. I'm interested in a Williams wheel system. The upper weight range is 190lbs for the 30 and 225lbs for the 30x. Does anyone have experience with either wheel and a similar body weight? I'm trying to decide if the 30x would be overkill for me.
Thanks!

185 lbs on the 30X. The weight penalty for the 30X is probably around 50g (not much) and if you plan on using the wheelset for everyday training the 30X is very stout and will provide peace of mind in terms of durability. The rear wheel's higher spoke count should also have a bit less flex which will be helpful for folks like yourself in the clydesdale range. I would go with the 30X but you might want to just call Keith Williams and get his recommendation on the best wheelset for your weight / riding style. Very accessable and knowledgable and provides great customer service.
The 30X can also be used for CX.

Well I've run the System 30s for several thousand miles now with no problems. But my weight was probably in the mid 170s when I got them and is down another 10 lbs now. But I used them daily for training on rough chipseal roads. I also have hi a few potholes at speed and the wheels remain true.
When I was making my decision on wheels I contacted Keith several times and he was very responsive and helpful. Wheels shipped and arrived super fast and were well packed.
I just recently replaced them with a hand-built set of Zen Cycles wheels and put them on my LeMond Zurich. But with the recent purchase of a CX bike for winter use the Willimiams are going to be swapped over to that bike for the winter.
I can't say anything but good things about the Williams wheels, hit Keith up for his advice.

30X for me also (205). Excellent wheels. You'll never notice the couple spoke difference between the two...I'd go with the 30X's.

Call Keith and he'll tell you to go with the 30s. I was around 195 and called and asked the same question and he kind of chuckled a little and said I'd be fine with the 30s.
I did manage to break a spoke on the rear wheel but the place the spoke broke meant that it was simply a bad spoke and had nothing to do with my weight or the wheel. Keith sent me a few spare spokes quickly free of charge and I replaced it and never had another issue. I've 210 now (hit by a car and without a bike for 6 weeks and put on 20 pounds!) and still on the 30s and they're fine.
That said, and this will sound weird, I'd get the 30X if I were you or if I had to do it again. To me it's just added durability for a minimal weight penalty and the price is the same.
I also have nothing but good things to say about Williams wheels and don't think I'll ever purchase another brand the rest of my riding career. Why mess with perfection?
