Long time mountain biker, getting into road. 11-madone 3.1 or 11-2.3?
Want to get into road biking and decided to get a Trek. Have good experiances with a number of Treks, like the customer service, and frankly no interest for 12 months has me sold. So im getting a pretty good bike.
I cant decide between a 2.3 or a madone 3.1.
I like the fact of the complete 105 components on 2.3.
The 3.1 has sram crank, and tektro brakes. Is Carbon frame that much of a big deal? I would appreciate some guidance here. What do you guys think?
Im basically doin 23 miles a day on my mountain bike. Purely just for fitness and exercise i dont race. I do love trails but id have to drive to trails where i live here. So thats why i really want a road bike.
Plus old midel year treks are 20% off

Get the bike with the better frame. And yes, carbon frames are, as a rule, significantly better than Al. Smoother ride, lighter weight, longer lasting. You can always upgrade components. Upgrading a frame rarely makes economic sense.

I bought an '11 3.1 and absolutely love it. It was an upgrade from my old LeMond aluminum with sora.
