Shameless Market Research: Cranksets in use.
It seems BB30 frames are more and more available but there are many who don't want to have to, or haven't budgeted for, a new crank and BB and would like to continue using their existing set-up. I fall firmly in this camp.
So, I'm looking at BB30 adapters and wondering what people are really using right now in terms of cranksets.
Please check out the poll.
It won't hurt a bit and thanks for your help even if it does.

Maybe I should have added "Other but Shimano compatible"?

Campy Square taper, FSA external cups. I also have no interest in BB30 or BBxx

I clicked Campy UT and Other. I have UT on 2 bikes and SRAM external on the wife's roadie. That siad personally when I get my next roadie (which I hope is soon) I won't let the style of crank it needs be THE deciding factor...it will be a factor but I have no issue buying a new crank and I'm not afraid of the pressfit standards. I'm currently looking at bikes with BB86 (I assume that is what Giant uses on its Advanced frames), BB30 and PF30 frames.

Why no BB30 option in the poll?

I have a SRAm Force crankset with their bottom bracket on the main bike, which is the same as the FSA if I remember correctly, and an FSA Gossamer on the back up.

The poll is about who is using a crank that would need an adapter for a BB30 frame. If you have a BB30 crank it's kind of a moot point, non?

Or people that have a decent groupset but want a new frame. If it's BB30 then it requires a new BB and crankset purchase, too. That's a different purchase, especially if you have a crank based PM.

Mine doesn't creak and I'm using an adapter (product testing).

I almost went with an adapter to bring my FC-6700 with me onto my new Cannondale, but I didn't like the idea of an adapter, and part of me bought into the science of BB30, so I left the Gossamer crank on the new C-dale and sold the Ultegra crank.
The only difference I notice is that I can cross-chain from big ring to big ring on the Gossamer without having to worry about the chain slipping off the crank as it would on the Ultegra. Shimano's response would be, "Well you're not supposed to do that anyway" - I know this, but sometimes it's more convenient to just stay in the big ring. Like in a crit.

The poll is just asking what kind of crank you're using. Since I'm using a BB30, I chose "other", which could also be something you didn't have listed that would require an adapter.

so, what is the product testing - is it an adapter? A few frames have caught my eye out there that were BB30. I'm in no position to do so now, but if I were to upgrade to one of them, I would likely want to use an adapter with my current crank rather than buy a new crank. Unless you could make a BB30 sized bearing that worked with Shimano cranks somehow.

If you use something like the Wheels Manufacturing BB30 adapter, it really isn't a big deal. It's basically just a spacer between the BB30 bearings and the crank.
This is the route I suggest anyone putting a non-BB30 crank onto a BB30 frame go. The Cannondale permanent adapter is not, IMO, a wise option.
As a side note, I am running the following cranks on various bikes: Hollowgram SI, FSA-made Cannondale Carbon SI, Dura Ace 7800, Sram 975 Quark GXP (on my wife's bike) and Sram Force. I can tell no difference in stiffness between the BB30 and non-BB30 bikes.

I have a FSA SLK BB30 crank with a BB30 Pedalforce QS3 frame. Love the frame... If I had it to do over I would have used a BB30 adapter. Lots of problems for me with the straight BB30 system. I will not get BB30 on another bike w/o the adapter, so I can use external screw in bearings.
