Masi
I stopped in one of the local shops yesterday just to look around. They had a few Masi bikes on the floor. Being an old guy, the name drew me in for a closer look. I realize the current name has nothing in common with the Masi of old, but they did look cool. The bikes on display are relatively low end Tiagra equipped machines. One had a white AL frame and blue anodized hubs, headset & other bits. It was a sharp & distinctive bike. Probably make a great bike for someone new to road riding.
Any thoughts about Masi?

They name was sold and the new company bears no resemblance to the old except for the fact that they do strive to have some fairly nice steel frames to keep the feel of the old Masi alive. They are now owned by Haro and they've done a great job managing them. From what I hear, the new carbon bikes are quite nice in ride quality, craftsmanship and paint.
I've owned a Masi CX, which was a great commuter, light touring and light cyclocross bike. It was quite durable and a tank. I moved on from it because I wanted something lighter and stiffer for racing - the CX was flexy. Almost got a CXR, but ended up with a Bianchi because of a better deal. Our shop sells a bunch of their fixies and many people like the ride and the look of them.

regarding the steel frames - I had an '09 Speciale road. it was a truly beautiful bike. metallic maroon paint.
i soon found it to be too flexy for me. i tried to make it work by setting it up pretty aggressively, but it still didn't work out, so i ended up selling it.

The US distributor has a blog and has posted here before. Or maybe in the SS/FG forum. https://masiguy.blogspot.com/
He'd probably respond to your questions if you e-mailed him.

Masi falls into the same void as Tomasso and Motobecane. Both OK but not of legendary history like they once were.
Taiwan or China made from a catalog.
I bought a Tomasso Aggriazato from Rs cycles back in 07 and have approx. 5000 miles on it with no problems what so ever.
Slightly above generic, below brand name.

I believe Masi has upped their game over any bikes direct brand bike. They may not be a top level brand but they are doing more than just bank on the old name. Apparently the person responsible for giving them this new identity has just recently left Masi to work with another company. I hope they don't become run of the mill again in his absence.

I own a California Masi from the tail end of the golden era. It really is a special bike that has unique functional beauty and a wonderful ride. These bikes were made for American racers who wanted an excellent general purpose road bike that looked and acted Italian without some of the flash and expense.
Motobecane USA is a BikesDirect company and really doesn't have to compete for attention on a sales floor.

Now that I'm thinking of it, I can't remember hearing about "the new" bike from Masi. I hear a lot about lots of brands and their innovations (claimed or real), but nothing from Masi.
Correct me if I'm wrong?

Masi Vincere
Reply to: Any thoughts about Masi Vincere?[/QUOTE]
Masi is worth a look. The Vincere caught my eye too. I'm thinking of adding another bike to my small but growing stable and the Vincere is high on my short list. It's a sweet lookin' bike with decent components (F/R Shimano 4500) at a good price point ($1250).

2005 Jamis Ventura Sport with F/R Shimano 4500, carbon fork, aero wheelset (When I feel the need for speed)
1993 Solid fork Trek 930 Singletrack with lugged steel frame ( all purpose grab and go bike. It's true, steel is real)!
1970s? 3 sp Schwinn ( errand and beater bike)

Carbon Frame.Very big down tubes but elegant top tubes.Cables through frame.Esthetically it was beautiful but can't comment ride quality since I have not own one nor ridden one.

Semper Fi
Our LBS has an Evoluzione 105 on the rack and it is giving my Cannondale loyalties a run for the money. I am going to test ride it and then do some thinking before I act but it is s well mad and equipped bike for the price. Sorry but BD just doesn't do much for me. They certainly have some very well equipped Bicycles for the dollars but I prefer to go local for the support they give me in all areas of mine and my wife's cycling.

Purchased the Evoluzione Apex for my GF last month. Great bike for the money that gets nothing but positive comments from everyone who has seen it in person. I'd ride one.

Masi are great bikes. The lugged steel Speciale Ltd is one of the best riding bikes i've ridden in the last decade. db cromo and very nice detailing.
The Evo carbon rides really nice, great road racing frame.
Made in Taiwan but so are most brands, even high end. I love Merckx frames but they are made in the east too. My Empella was made in the Netherlands (really it was made in Taiwan and painted in EU). But certain countries allow that if it is assembled or painted in the home country.
