I just received these wheels today from Nashbar.com. Of course I really want the SL, but I can't afford the $1000 pricetag right now. So I opted for these. Nashbar had them for $239, regular $399, and an additional 20% of for two days so I jumped on them. The first thing I noticed when I took them out of the box was how light they were. I honestly thought I was ordering the white ones, but these were silver. I am not big into shiny things, but I am not going to complain too much. I bought them for their use, not looks.

It was fairly easy to mount my Continental Gatorskins, which I found very difficult with my former rims. I inflated the tubes and put them on the bike. I have not had the opportunity to ride today, but I will be back on here tomorrow for an update as to how well the roll.

Good luck with your new wheelset. I have a pair of Ksyrium Equipe's that have been a solid utilitarian set of wheels.

I had a set of Equippe's. After having the rims warrantied replaced twice for cracks around the nipples, I sold them.

I had a set of Elite's. After seeing how much they flex under my weight when accelerating, I sold them.

I have a set of Open Pro's. I had to have the rear re-laced after a thousand miles for spoke breakage, I haven't sold them...yet. Hopefully using DT spokes will correct this issue.

Wow. I just bought a set of the Mavic Aksium Race from B...town. I hope they are more durable than the Kysriums.

Not trying to start anything, honestly want to know.

For the price I am considering picking up a pair of these as they are almost 400g lighter than what I am riding now, but with the low spoke count I am a bit concerned as I weight a touch over 200# I don't develop some ungodly power or anything, but the last thing I need is a set of rims folding under me on a bump either.

Just get Hed Ardennes....enough with this mavic stuff.

Hey, if I could afford the top of the line stuff, I would certainly get it. I am on a budget and wanted something better than the stock wheels that came on my 2007 Scott Speedster S30. I read a good review on Bikeradar.com. I will eventually get the Ksyrium SL, but I am going to wait until I can get them with a new carbon bike purchase. I really like the Masi Evoluzione or the the Scott CR1. But that is a whole different topic. For the price, I think I got a good set of training wheels. And perhaps they will help speed up and make my occational commute to work a little easier.

I've had Equipe's for a good while now (years) and have had no problems. Zero. Zip. Nada. No problemas!

Oh, and I can't remember the last time I weighed less than 200 lbs.

I've had a set on for a year, they have been reliable. I go over a lot of cattle guards, and they play hell on wheels,but so far no problems!

I have two Mavic wheelsets, a Ksyrium ES and an SSC SL. I have had them for about three to four years now. Both have not had any spoke wrench close to their nipples. I usually weigh between 200 and 215Ibs.

People can say whatever they want about Mavic wheels, but my experience with the ES and SSC SL has been solid.

Except for acting like sails in heavy crosswinds, they are fine.

I have 2011 Ksyrium Elites. SL's VS Elites? 65g and $500.

They are identical except for hub material and spoke material.
I weight 220lbs. They are Viagra stiff under me and I'm a masher.
In fact, I took a wicked fall on them my first time out and they stayed true.
When I took them back to my LBS, they couldn't believe that how I wrecked
on them (wheel turned at 90 degree angle, I went head over handlbar in a
hidden ditch in a grassy area I had to turn off into to avoid a rut on the path).
They are bombproof (as is commonly stated). Heavy at 1550g, but worth it.
IMO, the best bang for buck wheelset available in that price range.

But if your heart is set on the SL's, more power to you bro. Go for what you know!

Over the life of these wheels I have weighed in between 210-230 lbs and I baby the wheels over bumps, about 6K miles per year.

Anyone have the Aksium wheels? I have a set but only have about a 1000 miles on them and wondering how they will hold up in the long run.

Currently waiting for my Easton EA 90 SL's to come back from warranty. They are being re-laced as well for a known spoke issue. My spokes were breaking in the center.

Yep...if the re-lacing doesn't solve my issues, custom built's with deep rims (30mm) and 32 spoke count. CXP33 are not deep enough.

I have the white Equipes OEM on my C-dale SuperX. Perfect vehicle for northern NM roads. I've got '06 vintage SSC SL's on my '09 Addict R3 and they've provided great service for probably 15K miles with one rear wheel rebuild after a crash during that time. Most wheels are more aero tho.

What happened to the OP?

I posted about these wheels last week when Performance had them on sale for $249. To see if I should grab a pair and hang onto them as an eventual replacement for the ALX 320's that came on my bike. Comparable weight in the 1700 to 1800g range. The consensus of the replies was that I shouldn't get them, that they aren't anything special. So the OP's initial gushing over them (even before riding on them) left me skeptical.

I ordered a set from Performance and got them in yesterday. I havent ridden them yet but plan on taking them out for some extensive riding this weekend. Without riding them yet, they do seem like a good upgrade from the god awful stock wheels I had (Alex RPD15 or something). I will say I don't know what the OP was talking about, I had a hell of a time mounting Gatorskins on my set.

Planning on doing the same thing, i have ALX270s right now and theyre heavy.
