2012 Trek Madone 5.2 in the stable
I just can't stop smiling This is my first non-hand me down bike in all my time. I started road riding 2 years ago on a 60 cm Cannondale Caad3 circa 1999. It was good to learn on, but I knew after a 70 mile ride up to Orange County from San Diego I couldn't ride it anymore for long distance rides. The stiff alum frame, the ill fitting oversized frame, the kevlar Gatorskin tires, it was like riding a jack hammer up the crappy coast road. So I decided to test out a bunch of bikes from Cervelo, Focus, Specilaized, and Trek. It only took 4 LBS visits around town and knew I found my new bike, a test ride confirmed it. I even passed up the $2250 2010 5.2 demos they were blowing out and the $2599 2010 clearance ones just because I loved the 2012 paint job. I was able to negotiate a good price off the sale price and got it for $3000. My first ride was Del Dios a hilly climb in Northern San Diego, with the carbon, better fitting bike, and compact crank I motored up the hill like nothing I've done before, I love this new technology. Here are the pics.

rest of the pics.
So far I've removed the reflectors, moved over my gear from the Cannondale and ordered a Node 2 DuoTrap integrated computer system. Now I just need to figure out how to remove the dork disc:

flip it slam it! I actually like that color scheme. most dork disks you can just break off that's how I removed mine. wear gloves though, as the shards can be sharp.

That's 2012 Ultegra, right?
Looks great in that dark grey!
Frameset/Groupset-wise, that bike needs NOTHING!
You're set for life. You really can't do much better than that.
Wheelset/Tires/Tubes/BrakePads is about all you can do.
Cockpit fit-upgrades "if" you need them, but as is, you did great.
Enjoy your "Mad One"!

I remember my first Trek.*
I had it hanging on my wall right behind my TV.
It was a2009 Trek 1.5 (today's 2.X Series). I loved it.
I'd find myself staring at the bike more than the TV sometimes.
When I buy myself a nice Carbon bike next year,
I'm going to make sure I test a Madone before I choose.
Right now, it's going to be a Cannondale EVO Red.

I'm not sold on the bonty whitewalls, but otherwise that is a very sharp bike. Congrats!

Very nice!
Just today I talked with my LBS about trading in my Madone 4.5 and moving up to a Madone 5.2. I'm pretty sure that I'll also be riding a new Madone 5.2 this coming Spring riding season in Minnesota.

Good point about the white walls. Ride um till you need new ones. I have only seen one bike where the white walls looked good and it was a 2011 Madone 6 series that was Rage Red. Umph Umph! Yeah, 2012 paint jobs by Trek are awesome. Loving my new Trek Ion CX Pro cross bike and paint job. Color scheme matches my 2010 Madone 5.2 Pro. <3

cool looking bike. I know I'm in the minority, but I say leave that dork disk on until you have to do some other maintenance and then pull the cassette and get it off. As it's clear, it's not really noticeable.

That is one nice bike!
A lot of paint and anodizing though of steel and aluminum parts.
I am sure you noticed the feedback and responsiveness of the carbon frame and Shimano components compared to your prior bike.

I picked up a 5.5 as a team bike last week. I have to admit it rides much better than I anticipated. I may need a negative rise stem though, but so far I'm really impressed. I'm coming off of a Storck Scenario 1.1.

NICE! I am so jealous of you right now!!
You did a great job picking that thing out. Awesome paint job and I bet it rides like a cloud. Have fun and rack up the mileage!

So what triggered you into getting the red/white scheme? I was just over at the Trek Store this weekend and believe it or not, there are about 3 different individuals who are ordering the Black on Black! That BoB is also my target bike this December (crosses fingers and hope the wife does not change her mind...) since it makes the multiple Trek logos less noticeable. Sweet looking ride bro! And the color scheme looks much much better here than what is shown in the Trek website.
As far as the wheels and tires, I was told that the new Race Wheelsets are better this year, but it's still pretty hefty at 1900 grams. So there is room for improvement, weight-wise. Not that it's needed for the likes of me. 16 somewhat pounds is much much lighter than my 34 pounder mtb. The tires though, I was looking into either Conti GP4000S or the Bonty RXL All Weather Hardcase. Any thoughts from the OP or from any other Trek owners on these?
