I also see you are a Dawgs fan. Helluva season aye? You excited for Saturday, or desperately afraid?

Columbus actually so not far. And yes very excited to see A) us put up a hell of a fight or B) LSU completely embarrass us

I can drive at night but I prefer not to. the thing is I don't have any place to really ride safely at night either.

I am supposed to try and ride a couple of times this week, my riding buddy is off early all week so hopefully we can brave the wet and cold together...

Just because you are indoors on the trainer doesn't mean you can't HTFU. Just dial up the resistance!

it's not the same. If you were going to HTFU you'd go outdoors. cranking it hard on the trainer < cranking it outdoors any day

I'm not sure if you are joking or not... do they really make these for bicycles. I remember buying a set for my 2001 Miata and going skidding all over New Jersey in the slush and snow and having a blast that winter. And then I looked at your nick. LoL

Yep they make them for bikes, carbide studded tires with special durometer rubber. They actually make quite a few variations of them. They're better than the cheap studded tires because the carbide studs don't wear out.

Miatas are pretty good in the snow IMO, I used to have one and drove it year round

Maybe not, but sometimes it's all you've got when it's 10 below zero and there's 18 inches of snow on the ground.

You can probably get fitter doing structured workouts on a trainer than riding outside in the snow, but on the other hand it's winter time and base miles time for most people so it might not matter. Riding outside is definitely more fun if you are equipped to do so.

Once the first real snow hits and the sanders come out in force my road bike gets put on the rack. Too much sand and glass in that sand for me to ride in the dark. Changing flats in the daylight isn't great but in the cold, dark of the night it really $!@#$. The mtn bike comes out a bit, I'll run in the dark, hike or ski weekends, trainer during the week; it's all good - make lemonade. Just 22 days until the days start getting longer!

I work 9-5 and since it's dark at 5pm I have no choice but to wait for the weekends. I have the gear for the cold weather, but I have no desire to ride in the dark so I will have to make due with 100 miles or so between Sat and Sun. I hate the winter.
