BMC streetracer any good? looking to upgrade
I'm looking to upgrade from my 2010 Allez Sport and I came across a brand new 2011 BMC Streetracer SR02 with all 105 components for $800, but I'm unsure of BMC because I have heard very little about them. What do you know about them, and does anyone here own one? If so, what are your opinions? Cheers

I have a 2010 BMC Roadracer. Its similar to the streetracer, but has carbon seat stays. BMC's are good bikes. Competitive cyclist has that bike on sale for 899 so 800 sounds like a good deal. If the bike is the right size and fits you go for it.

BMC sucks, don't bother.
Signed,

In all seriousness though, great bikes, but will it be that much of an upgrade from your current bike? You'd be going from a 9-speed aluminum bike to 10-speed aluminum bike (assuming all else being equal, such as your current bike fitting well and all that). I haven't ridden a Streetracer to compare it to something like an Allez, but they're both aluminum frames.
Me personally, I saved a little longer until I could afford to go to the 10-speed carbon bike I REALLY wanted. It would be an upgrade, sure, but it's up to you to decide if this particular upgrade is worth it to you.

At that price, it is a great deal - I was very happy with mine and it cost me $1000, and another $1000 for my wife's. It is not super light, but very responsive. Mine is my first road bike, having added this to the stable to compliment my CX bike I got in April.
I plan to upgrade seat (it is a velo, not comfortable at all), bars (to the FSA flat top Al bars), possibly stem and seatpost. Just because I want to, no have-to. I did flip the stem up to make it a bit more comfortable for me (I have more belly than lap).
I don't think I could be happier with the bike, unless if it were red (I got the white one, my wife got red). But then, i don't have the "gotta have the sexy carbon bike" bug, and Al is just fine by me.

$800 sounds like a great deal... but doesn't sound like a really good "upgrade"? If you have the money to blow and just like the looks of the Streetracer a lot more than your Allez, then why not? If you're scraping along financially, then don't bother. Either way, enjoy the ride!

The Op havent heard about BMC?? the darn bike has won the TdF like 6 times in a row if it wasnt because if doping riders or other stuff they could have won a lot more. Cadel Evans rings the bell??
As for the allez and the BMC?? U cant compare the bikes because u can race in the BMC w/o any problems, the allez u have wouldnt have my pick for a low budget racing bike at all.
If you go for the BMC, please flip the stem because BMC's looks quite tacky with the stem pointing up
The bike doesnt deserve it !

Posting again on this thread - it is a great bike, is kinda nice to have one that you don't see every day, and you can't beat the price for a well-equipped bike. You can do long rides on it, race it, or just ride it. If it fits your budget, your n+1, and you want it, get it and ride it like you stole it.
I am really partial to mine - I like it more every time I ride it. I'd sell 'em without a commission or a payday - they are great bikes for the money and you'd be hard pressed to match the deal.

Well, I sold my Allez today for $500, and bought the BMC. I already miss my spesh (we had some great rides), but the BMC is just such a better bike: better frame, better components, and it just feels better. Plus, it does look nicer... more polished I guess. All in all, not a bad deal at all for basically $300

my dad just got this bike from CC - its a great deal for the price....but keep in mind - has some weird off brand brake calipers and possibly the heaviest wheelset i have ever seen in my entire life. If you wanted to dispose of a body, just tie those wheels to it and them em overboard. that being said its more bike than you get new pretty much anywhere for that price. Also it took about 7 minutes to put together out of the box and ready to go. quite easy.

I had the 2011 SR02 last year and for $999 at that time it was a fantastic deal. The only issues I had were with the seatpost collar getting stripped and the brake calipers were a bit flexy.
It was pretty stiff though and very responsive... for $800 you got a great deal.

Yup. the 2011 SR01 came with a scor saddle, seatpost and stem. For 2012 they scrapped that idea though, they are back to easton parts (except for the brakes at the sr01 tiagra which is tektro/scor)

Congrats! At that price, you can play the upgrade game and have fun at it. I'm a Clyde, so the wheels are not high priority till I drop some weight and the season changes - but am going to change bars to the FSA flat top Al bars.
Had a beautiful day to ride today - 45, clear, dry, a tad windy. But so nice to get out on the road on my BMC! Enjoy yours!!!
