Getting ready for a duathlon at the end of the month. Nothing quite as painful as early season brick workouts. I have no idea why the bike to run transition is so utterly miserable for your body but at least it gets better with training.

They are aero. Not about looks, about cheating the wind. They are probably heavier than my current brakes, but more aero by far.

Sounds like fun. I just signed up for my first tri and am at the Y having just finished a swim AND a run.

I think I have the run down ok, can do 8 minute miles without too much trouble, but I really suck in the water. Got any tips??

datlas 02-05-12 06:01 PM

It's really dead here at the Y. Is something going on in the world?!

The Greeks are trying to figure out a way to default on their debt, without defaulting on their debt.

Drachmas FTL?

But that does not explain the absence of humanity at the Y.

If you haven't checked out the Total Immersion DVDs and books, give them a look. It helped give me some semblance of form in the water, though the swim is still a weak event for me too. Otherwise, I'd say 1. Get a good wetsuit, 2. Get some open water practice before race day--the last thing you need is the HR and anxiety boost of having that be the first time you're swimming and can't see the bottom, and 3. When the gun goes off, wait 5-10 seconds for the mob to take off. You're not in it for the win, and it'll help keep you from getting kicked in the face. ;)

"By far" might be a bit of an overstatement. I'm guessing 5 sec or so in a 40K TT. It's still a big chunk of metal with a cable sticking out of it disturbing airflow over the head tube and leading edge of the fork.

One must always come up for air and perspective periodically when immersed in the aero-geekery. Start believing every claim about components that are "more aero by far" and you'll spend $5K on stuff that still won't matter in the real world.

Brady is about to dial it up to 400w and drope the hamer

As a swimmer, I would recommend talking to a master's swimmer. Or if they have SwimLabs where you are, or some sort of similar facility, I would spend the money and have your stroke analyzed. It's a similar investment as getting your bike fitted, and will pay off almost as much.

I think the Warranty thread got deleted. I wonder why.

Giants win. That was predictable. Manning is Mr. Clutch. I think you can safely elevate Eli into the Rogers/Brees/Peyton Club at this point. Did you see that amazing sideline catch? Holy crap. That will be on Super Bowl highlight reels for a few decades right there.

Okay... you know, if a slightly rounded brick is more aero... by far.

WhyFi 02-05-12 09:05 PM

Eff the Giants. On to the NBA until spring training starts.

Velo Vol 02-05-12 09:06 PM

Nothing is predictable.

How about the E-Trade commercial?
