Which helmet with GOPRO?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Which helmet with GOPRO?

So I've got a GoPro for Christmas and looking to find a new road helmet to use with it. So I was wondering which helmets people are using with the GOPRO and if possible to attach a Picture to see how it looks. Cheers,

Ed

GoPro cameras have to sit on the top of your helmet and they will look dorky no matter what helmet you have.

Boy is that correct. Every time I see somebody coming the opposite way with a GoPro helmet mounted I want to throw up a little bit...they just look terrible. They sit up about a foot in that dorky waterproof housing and are like a foot wide. Great for aerodynamics. The Contours all look like sleek little flashlights side mounted on their helmets.

I'm still gonna get a GoPro. I've done all my research and it's just better video, easier editing, better sound, more options, etc. I think I'll go with the handlebar mount but am not sure I like that static view.

It's probably better than the helmet mount and my wife giving me the evil eye as my helmet cam does a 180 every time a babe jogging or riding a bike goes by. And down here in SoCal it happens, uh, often....

Yeah I know it looks dorky and wonder if anyone has put any sort of custom mount on to stop it sticking out at the top so much. Maybe you could mount it into a grove rather than onto. Something to experiment with me thinks. I like the view from the helmet rather than the handle bar as that shows other people (if it ever came to a court case or some other silly reason) that I did my shoulder checks and what not. Its either that or in the future I will invest in a roam and make the GOPRO face the rear.

you can get a chest mount, so you don't have it on your helmet. or you can do the Lucas Brunelle kick ass helmet rig thing.

i don't understand having a gopro on a road ride (unless you are riding like lucas brunelle)

I don't really understand either, unless you have a long descent with a group of people i can see where it would kinda be cool but other than that i find it pointless. Mountain biking or cyclo-x is a different story though.

Well I use it on my XC and road bike. The reason for using it on the road is that i've started cycling more on the road and have come to a few near misses. One day if I do get knocked off then I have evidence to use against the driver. There are quite a few road cyclists who do this and upload videos onto youtube. One of my favourites is "Cyclegaz". Have a look. I'll try out the chest strap. The contour cameras would be better, but I have a GoPro for now, hence why I'm asking.

I see, living in LA i should do the same. Drivers out here are in their own little world most of the time. I got hit just last year.

@pablosnazzy - Yep, me too!

@wrr1020 - Its a really good investment so far, especially when you can get into arguements with drivers. Send them to the police and they get a letter/ fine etc....

And then because I have a GoPro then I was wondering if any helmets are better than otheres. Well anyways im goingbuying a new helmet (hopefully) tomorrow and I can just take the camera to the place and attach it to see which looks the best.

Did your Gopro came w/ a headstrap? If it did just use the
strap on whatever helmet you have now. That's what I did
when I had my Gopro. The look is a bit cleaner compared
w/ the cam on top of a helmet. Plus it's very stable.

none. get the bar mount. I did a century and had it on for a bit and dammit that thing gets heavy, it came off after about 10 miles and was put away in my jersey for a majority of the ride. I took it out for certain parts of the ride and have never used the helmet strap again.

It is also fun to have when you ride with Lucas Brunelle.
