Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Your Dream Bike?

If you had the chance to have any road bike, what would it be(you can pick more than one-could be from any era)?

Here's mine:

1)Bike Lemond used to win his first TDF in 86( I believe it was a Look KG65 frame)
2)Specialized Allez used in American Flyers

I may buy mine later this year. Either a BMC Impec or Team Machine with Campy Record and a particular wheelset I have in mind.....

Right now, it's probably a toss up between a Colnago C59 and a Canyon CF Ultimate SLX with Dura Ace Di2 and several sets of CF wheels. The top level Addict, SuperSix, and Tarmac also interest me quite a bit, though.

Supersix Evo ultimate?

Honestly I don't know, I didn't ride any. But it's the natural "top upgrade" as I currently ride a supersix.

Bikes: Felt Brougham, Lotus Prestige, Cinelli Xperience,

Specific dream bike would be the bike my Dad salvaged in the mid '70's, stripped down, repainted the frame bright orange, meticulously rebuilt all of the pieces, and maintained for each of my older siblings and I to ride and abuse over the next 15 years. Each time it passed from one kid to the next, he would repeat the process. Lugged steel frame, down tube shifters. Don't know what happened to it but would kill to have it back.

man, tough question. a few possibilities:

1. parlee z1 custom - hard to get much better
2. time RXRS ulteam - best-looking IMHO
3. specialized s-works+mclaren venge - fastest (along with S5, but i don't like how the S5 looks)
4. the one i have now - because when i dream about riding, that's what i'm riding

When I started riding I saw a Tarmac w/ SRAM Force components. I always told myself I wanted one...

7 Bikes later I finally built up an 2012 SL3 w/ SRAM Force components. I'm more than satisfied with it.

I can never understand why people pick stock bikes for these things. obviously I'd go custom.

Why? Short of being unusually proportioned, I think most people will be able to fit perfectly a 50, 52, 54, 56, 58, 60 cm bike...

Very few people have the angles and lengths of the tubes exactly as they should be according to their riding style. very few.
