Snow and a road bike
Got up this morning to heavy flurries and went out for an hour on my mountain roads. had to be the best hour ride of the year...and it made me think of Hampsten at the Giro...wow, I couldn't see a thing with my glasses on...and when I took them off, the stuff stung bad...so to Andy, That was one epic ride, dude!
Came home with my hands frozen, even with full on winter gloves, and my face raw, and I had so much fun I am thinking about going out again before dinner.
Dang, I'm addicted.

One thing I learned in college the hard way, skinny bicycle tires don't have any traction on ice. They just go out from under you. These were probably underinflated too, so they had extra contact.

I found skinny road tires cut through deep snow better so they made contact with the road underneath. As for traction on ice - that depends on the material in the tire rather than its shape.
