Handlebar with a very short reach?

Thought I would ask you guys, I'm looking for an aluminum wing handlebar with a very short reach, around 70-75 cm.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance
Mike

There's a lot of bars with 72-77mm reach. Just look at any catalog like the one from Excel Sports.

adriano 02-21-12 05:33 PM

77cm is exactly what he doesnt want.

xfimpg 02-21-12 07:15 PM

Yeah, i already have a 95mm and i would need at least 20mm shorter.

The problem with shopping online is that the reach is hardly posted. Which is why I'm posting here in hopes of get real data.

easton ea70 if you like ergo bars.

FSA K-wing. There's an aluminum version. I think it's a 75 reach and 125 drop.

Ok so the Ergonova is 77mm obviously not cm. I wouldn't think 2mm would make much of a difference. Easton EC90 SLX3 have a 75mm reach. Not a very pronounced wing but still a VERY nice set of bars. I had a set on my Neo.

you're right about the 77mm. i have to admit i didnt like the "egg-shaped" top.

The Specialized Shallow Bend bars are also 75mm. http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/...jsp?spid=64469

Thanks, good one.

I've seen the handlebars on the Specialized Roubaix models, they seem to have a wing top. Does anyone have one they could measure the reach c-to-c? Thanks

adriano 02-21-12 07:42 PM

10mm shorter stem. every bar now works.

Hey, you're on to me. I currently have an 80mm stem with a 95mm reach handlebar. If I go to a 75mm reach, I can go either 90mm or 100mm stem and my bike won't ride so "nervously".

You're welcome! I actually like that one a lot because it reminds me of the FSA, but cheaper and lighter. If I end up getting a bike that doesn't come with a compact bar, that's the bar I'll be replacing it with.

This may be heresay, but those drops are seriously long. I would consider cutting them down a few mm since i'm never in the drops anyways. Other than that, looks promising. The tops aren't wing so to speak, but i would imagine be better than the traditional bars my long fingers dislike.

emveezee 02-21-12 08:08 PM

Well, if you're looking to keep the total reach (stem plus bar) at 175mm (or 165mm with a 90mm stem), handling will be the same when on the hoods or in the drops. Indeed, it will feel more stable when on the tops, but not sure if that's what you're aiming for...

Yeah its the downhill part in the hoods, a longer stem would make the bike feel less squirrely.

CuRed 02-21-12 08:12 PM

Deda RHM02, flat tops, I think reach was 75-77mm.

Your current setup is a train wreck waiting to happen, you need at least a 90mm stem for reasonable stability. I believe the Pro Stealth Evo is 69mm reach but there pricey.

You won't get an argument from me, my friend.
