Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I kinda like the way some people have personalize their bikes. I love 2ndGen's medallion.

I wish the losers that need to berate anything they didn't think of or just need to put down would start their own thread and group and post there. If you don't like the topic or idea don't click on the link, just go away and sulk somewhere else.

I like the name decal idea, and I'm going to order mine today. Thanks for the link to Victory Graphics! Those that put up pics of their bikes they look great with the decals.

It is your bike. Do what you want with it, but be ready to take the scrutiny for it too. “If you don’t like it go somewhere else” ain't working. This is a public forum and you are going to hear both pros and cons.

I've been meaning to do this for a while. Think I'll go with Bikenames because I don't like any of the fonts that Victory uses.

I met a guy this weekend that had this custom yellow cannondale. Apparently, he got some custom geometry, or whatever, and they also put his name on the top tube by the seatpost. It looked really really nice since it was from the factory and under the clearcoat and stuff. I was a little jealous. I wouldn't mind having something like that one day.

But I do not like the idea of just putting stickers on after the bike has been painted. If it's not under the clearcoat, it won't reflect light the same way, and it will look like a hack. IMO.

I got mine from Victory Circle Graphics too. At first I had mixed feelings about this. I felt it was sort of cheesy seeing as how I don't race. I thought about taking it off. But since then... it's really grown on me. (Don't mind the pedals... I got Keo Classics on now.)

You do realize the pedals can't be seen in this pic, right??

You can see one of them right behind the water cage. I'm more of a lurker on here than anything... but I do read this forum constantly and well aware of the BF scrutiny so I thought I'd put a disclaimer. LOL

I never would have spotted the pedal if you hadn't pointed it out.

Has anyone done custom, graphical decals for their wheels?

I'd get one done, but the typefaces most of these companies offer seem better suited to middle schoolers. I'd like something simple small and classy. Maybe someday...

IMHO, there are some classy fonts in here, and you can order small sizes in the order page.

I used to work for a small vinyl store much like a lot of the links being shown in this thread.

Rear seat stays or chain stays were pretty popular places to put decals. keep in mind that if you ride through mud, gravel or water the decal might get abraded after a while if it's on the inside of the chain stay. I would suggest putting a clear over wrap (sort of line a chain stay protector) over it if you wanted to keep it long term. If not, who cares! it's vinyl! people wrap their entire cars in it for a short period of time just for some variety.

If you need more real estate for decals you might even consider wrapping whichever tube with cast vinyl as an easy way to non-permanently delete the factory logos.

what you said is so true, i recently started a thread about making my own time trial bars for a technology and design project which will count towards my A level grades, and all i got in reply was why my ideas were already on the market and that I should do more research. I thought that is the point of this forum, to gather information?

I'm thinking about buying a Moto Ti. If I get the Force version, the red decals would have to come off. Maybe I'll replace them with "Huffy" of "Denali".

If you put a flag on the sticker next to your name you have added value of people thinking you are a pro. Would be quite funny. Better yet would be engraving your name on various parts on the bike. Like the guy who owned my Miyata at some point.

Cool stuff. Are these removable, in case you want to sell your bike later?

I've been thinking about putting something similar on my bike for about a year now. but not my name. i wanted to put my wife and daughter's names on the bike, as they're what i tend to think about while i'm pedalling the hours away, and as a gamble on some sort of guardian angel angle (i may be agnostic, but i'm superstitious as hell!). anyways, it's a wife and two daughters now, but i thought name & name & name in a small bold type at the seatpost end of the top tube would be nice. and i really like ampersands, so getting an extra one is a bonus!

if i lived outside my country of origin, i'd definitely go the little flag and name thing though. nice touch...

I like this idea. A name on a bike. But not my name. I want to give my bike it's own name... like "Layla" or "Suzie Q"... or "Sweet Child 'O Mine".

You know, somethin' really b*tchin'.

Then I'll make a sticker for it in a font like Trebuchet or Comic Sans, 'cause they're cool and everyone will appreciate my creative personality when they see me.

They'll be like, "Wow, that dude is pretty hip and clever - that sticker on his bike really shows his creative personality".
