Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Great pictures, really makes me want to ride out West. Keep these coming, my fiance is getting more and more into cycling and I am close to convincing her we need to take some biking vacations like this.

BAUTIFUL Pics thanks for posting them. I spend 4 years in Yuma when I was young and fell in love with the So West. then I got reassigned to the Boston area and while that is nice in its own way, the So West is for me. People who have never been out there just don't realize how beautiful it is. One of my brothers always seems to think the Sonora Desert is just like the Sahara in those old Omar Sharief movies. One day I'll get back out there.

Awesome trip report, thanks for sharing!!! This reminds me that I better get it together next year and plan a winter trip to Tucson. Such a nice break from the cold here, and gorgeous scenery.

Wow, nice photos. I live in Tucson and sadly I have to say you've done a couple rides I have yet to do. It seems like you enjoyed yourself in the Old Pueblo. It really is a great place to own a bike and ride. On a side note, knowing a bit of African American cycling history I was immediately drawn to the Major Taylor jerseys your friends were wearing. Any idea on where I might be able to get one of those jerseys (kits) ? Hope you get a chance to get back to the desert soon. Thanks again for the great pics.

Every year I am asked to race for the team and every year I decline. I'll ask the directeur sportif if normal (non-racers) folks like us can get the kit somehow .

Hi kimconyc,

Definitely one of the best photo-essay posts I've seen on BF. There aren't too many ways to spend a week cycling than what you did. Surprisingly good race photos from a point-and-shoot camera, albeit a very good point-and-shoot camera.

I spent the better part of a week in Tucson a few years ago and did two of the same rides as you. My day on Mt. Lemmon was "epic" and probably somewhat ill-advised. I want to go back and ride up that mountain with better weather.

Kim, seriously, I've been going out to Tucson to cycle once or twice a year for the past ~7 years and I've never taken pictures as gorgeous as the ones you've posted here. Really good eye with a camera, this thread is incredible.

I do find myself wishing for some clouds during the summer heat as we can go weeks without seeing daytime temps below 105 and not a cloud in the sky. It forces me to bed early so I can ride at sunrise...

Your pics remind me I need to take my camera along more often as there are some really nice views as well.

Enjoy spring in the Northeast, we don't see much green grass unless it's a golf course out here...
Get thee down to Tucson. There it only goes weeks without seeing daytime temps below 98! Ahh, the luxury!
