Councilwoman debuts new aero hemlet for "Bike to work" day
So today is "Bike to work" day in New Orleans. I don't know if it's the same everywhere else. There were like 5 common locations where people met up this morning and rode to work from. Most of the meeting spots had a councilperson, or the mayor, or someone important riding from there also.
I didn't participate, but I did take notice of our City Councilwoman's new aero helmet with what looks to be electrodes for "brain shifting." It looks like they redesigned the ventilation so it is more aero too. Pretty cool:
These look pretty cool, and I can't wait until they are available to the general public.

My wife came out of the house for a ride like that once. Being the excellent husband that I am, I didn't say a word and took her parading around the local forest preserve MUP like that.

Honestly, I can't really blame anyone for wearing a helmet backwards or in some other strange way the first time. If you don't know, you just don't know. And they are shaped pretty strangely.
BUT, if your helmet has a visor, then you have no excuse. The visor is a dead giveaway that this is "front." Unless it has a "Neck guard." Aw, now I'm getting myself confused.

It bothers me a little that there were tons of people around, and no one said anything to her.
But then again, maybe they did, and she was like "yeah, I know. hehe. But I'm not having helmet-hair all day." I'd be okay with that.

totally excusable for a person new to riding a bike.
when I was living in LA I went to InCycle in Pasadena to look at stuff I couldn't afford and there was a guy in the parking lot pulling up in his bike (nice road bike), fit cyclist, full club/team kit....helmet backwards. i thought it must have been a joke or a prank. I didn't know what to say so i just went inside and pretended I didnt see it.

Too funny! Electrodes for shifting. That may be better than Google's glasses.
I still find myself checking to see if I placed my helmet correctly everytime. Think I'd die if I found out I had it on backwards. LOL

On a bike? Yes.
Smiling? Yes.
Sure it's good for a laugh, but anyone in any local government stepping up and riding a bike in the name of getting more people to ride bikes? I'd rather giver her a high-five, shake her hand and say, "thanks."

I will give her credit for the Roadie-Approved sunglass temples outside the straps.

The unbuckled chinstrap is what really kills me. But maybe that's just an old army thing.
Perhaps you missed it when she no-handed for a while, pulled off her glasses, turned her helmet around, put the glasses back on, and laughingly turned to her companions and said, "Now I feel like I have appropriate attire for this bike, I mean come on, look at these pedals."
If not the above, how long before she took this picture, threw it on her assistant's desk and said, congratulations, you get to look for a new job?
