Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Need cheap Sunglasses

Any suggestions for a pair of $50 sunglasses? I'm partial to Orange tint. This is for road riding, urban (NYC) riding and occassional MTB. I want a site where I can buy a pair of gloves as well, so I can do this as a one-shot deal..............OK, I'll go up to $100 on the shades

Thanks!

Not to say one can't easily spend over 100 bucks on sunglasses, but your thread title is a little misleading...cheap to me is sub-20 from cvs, which is what I rock!

I have Performance's Scattante Matrix glasses. They are comfortable and stay rock solid on my face, never slip. They have the amber lenses you want and come with smoked and clear ones as well. Under $50 and can often be found on sale for under $35.

I had a pair of Chilis glasses from REI that I liked until they finally wore out.

Keep an eye on Chainlove.com, they have had a lot of sunglasses this week. Can't try them on, of course so if you are picky you probably want to buy local.

Look for Tifosi sunglasses.
$50 is roughly the midpoint of the online prices for their products.

You beat me to it. Mine tend to cost $10, come from a convenience store, and get replaced when my idiocy comes out.

I'm leaning toward Tifosi Tyrants in Orange. I just hope they're not too dark, but I think the photochromic-whatever will adjust for all of that. Thanks all!

I think I have the tifosi slip. It was tifosi something anyway. Fototec with red lens. Something like 12-30% transmission (so not very dark on bright days, but does ok in dim light). I think I got it for less than $40 before shipping at campmor.com.

I'd like to add I've been riding with these $7 sunglasses from a gas station, with orange-mirror lenses. The color is awesome--it makes me feel like I'm in hawaii. The problem is that the lenses are too small and there's a lot of extra plastic around them, so when I turn to look over my shoulder, there's a huge blind spot. I don't need that when I'm doing 30 on my Allez Double

+1 on the Tifosi line. You should be able to find a style that suits you for $50 give or take a few bucks. Good shades for this (and any really) price range.

I usually go with "cheap" multi-lens options from online for my daily wear though. Sub $35 is usually a perfectly fine if utilitarian option from Performance, bonk/chain, or the like. I don't spend more as I invariable lose them and/or drop and mar them at some point.

I have the Tyrants with the "Light Night" photochromic lens.
They are light enough that I can even use them at night.
Handy for those evening rides that start in daylight, but finish after sunset.

I use cheapo glasses as well. I broke my pair in last weekends race and plan to buy another $20 pair from Sports Authority today. Think that's best with cycling unless you spend $300 on a pair that's very nice and very durable.

Wal-Mart has some rimless, wrap-around fishing glasses in various lens colors for $20.00 in their fishing department. They all have UV protection and are polarized as well. I bought a pair after my cataract surgery and I'm very happy with them. If they break, I'm not out a bunch of bucks.

I got some optic nerve sunglasses as an extra pair for around $35 and they came with 3 or 4 sets of lenses. I usually wear my Tag Heuer photochromatic golf lenses (full shield) but those are closer to $400+

I have a set of Tifosi Roubaix that have the orange lenses. I dig em' and they were cheaper than my jawbones.

You may want to try Longcycle.com. I have found them to be real good.
I would agree with the Wal Mart sporting goods polarized for 18 bucks. I have been using them for years. Some stores also have them in a bi-focal, which is what I use. Good luck
