Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Riding in the wind

Biking related, what do you hate more than riding in the wind? Being chased by an angry pitbull?

No contest. Riding in the wind sucks way worse than being chased by a pit bull. You can outrun the pit bull. Today I rode almost 20 miles into a 20+ mph headwind. That was close to all-time suckage.

Not riding.

Take a hint from The Matrix. "There is no wind."

Agreed. I hate riding in the wind, but I remind myself that it will make me stronger/faster if I just HTFU and do it.

I don't mind riding in the wind too much. 13 years of cycling in Manitoba and I kind of got used to it.

So there are a lot of other things worse than riding in the wind.

It's pit bull, not pitbull. And I love them!

Riding in the wind? I love it!

I thought cycling was about enjoying the pain. HTFU

not riding. Clear favorite. I'll take a windy suffer-filled ride any day over being sidelined and unable to ride. Heck, make that a snowy, 30 degree, windy day on the bike and it still is FAR preferable to not being able to ride!

Where I live, if I don't ride in the wind, I don't ride. I mean, it's a 70 mile long sandbar sticking out into the ocean. If it isn't blowing 20+ west, it's blowing 20+ east, and my wife ain't about to hop in the car and drive 30-40-50 miles to pick me up if I try to do a point-to-point all downwind.

Riding into the wind uphill on my cyclocross bike. Definitely toughens you up.

Worse than riding into the wind is riding behind someone constantly breaking wind.

In all seriousness, nothing sucks more for me than 0-2C, damp, windy (35-40km/h) rides, especially when it's hitting head on up all the long hills in my area. Hate those rides with a passion but I still do them because not riding can suck even more.
