White jersey issue

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

White jersey issue

Most of my jerseys are dark color, but my favorite one is almost all white. What I have been noticing is that when I wear the white jersey, bugs seem drawn to me. When I wear the darker jerseys, nothing. When I wear the white jersey it's like riding through a swarm of locusts (gross exaggeration, of course). But I have noticed a significant increase in fairly painful high-speed collisions with insects when wearing white. Anyone else have the same issue?

Today on a long, fast downhill, one hit me square in the forehead right in the 1/2" space between the bottom of my helmet and the top of my glasses...POW! Then a little later one hit me right on my top lip...FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF#$%#)$ that hurts! I think I got hit about 15 times total today.

Bugs are not attracted to lighter colors.. they are attracted to contrast. At least that's what all of the Adirondack literature says. Hiking lore says light shirt, light shorts, or dark shirt dark shorts.

So if you stay along the same color intensity, you should have no issues. I am seeing white shorts in your future.

Most of my jerseys are mostly white with some of other colors in it. Primarily either black or red. I live in a flat swamp, AKA FL, and don't notice those issues. Maybe you need to ride faster sot he bugs don't catch you!!

Dark (black) jersey fan here. Red is right out - three wasp encounters, that's a good enough sample to scare me off of red.
