Shimano ST-R500
Hi guys,
I'm 13 so i have very limited funds, but kinda need a road bike, so i looked around and found a 2200/2300 equipped road bike for cheap. I'm gonna get it tuned, but before that, i'm gonna swap out the derailleurs with 105. I'd like to, in the future, also change my cassette to a 10 spd, get 3x10 105 shifters and a new chain, but for now i cant afford that. Then i looked around and found out about ST-R500 shifters, which are 8 spd and supposedly 105 grade. the thing is, should i save up and spend about an extra hundred dollars and go with 105 shifters, or should i stick to spd with ST-R500? Is the advantage in having 10 gears vs 8 gears really worth it? Which of the 2 options would you do if it would take about 2-3 months to save up for 105 shifters and cassette? Also, the bike is a Fuji Newest 3.0. Do you guys think i could fit some 700x 32c tires in there so i can ride trails with my friends once in a while? Thanks

Welcome to the 41........ First thing is to get out there and just ride it. I wouldn't spend too much on the bike as it's only a 500-550 dollar bike new. get it tuned up, and use it as is till you decide you really like road bikes, then save your pennies for a nice bike.

There is no sense in swapping anything on that bike, just tune it well, maintain it, and most of all, ride it.
The upgrades you are talking about could easily cost you more than a bike with those components already in place.

Lol thanks. I'll just keep it the way it is and ride it. Also, it looks like the frame has enough clearance for 700x32c. heres a pic of the bike :https://farminarian.files.wordpress.c...west-3-001.jpg.

ProMax Forged Road brakes. I googled but didnt find much info about them. Do you guys know if they will fit? If not, do you know some good cyclo cross 700x 28c tires that could handle sand or gravel?

Just ride what you have. 3x8 is fine. My 1990s touring bike, which is now my commuter, is a 3x8 and I still ride it a few thousand miles a year. 8 speed chains/cassettes last longer than 10 speed anyway, so just save your money. Besides, around the time you were born, 8 speed cassettes were what the pros rode in the tour de France. It was good enough for them back then. Although that's a lifetime ago to you, it's not that long ago for the rest of us.
