Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Crankset

I recently bought a CAAD10 Rival, and I am relatively new to racing, Ive done about 6 races. People have suggested that I upgrade the crank. I have the 2012 CAAD10 with out the force crank.

What crank do you guys think is the best in a few categories?

1. Value
2. Performance
3. Weight
4. All Around Best

I think Im definitely going to upgrade, just which crankset to get. :? Oh and I currently run a standard sized crankset.

Perhaps by crank they meant "legs"? I don't see how a new crank would help.

Rival is a good crank. Very stiff, durable. Get a better wheelset and train harder.

A new crank will have zero effect on your race performance unless the current one is broken.

Yup. Crankset is about the last thing I would upgrade. Did your friends give a reason ?

This. Your crank is fine. A nice set of wheels make a big difference. If you really feel you need a new crank, just jump on eBay and get a Force crank. Funny that Cannondale did that. They used to do a Force crank on the bikes with Rival. But then again, they also have a habit of putting rubbish wheels on their lower level bikes.
