Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Nobody catches my typos because the 41 is chock full of spelling imbeciles, so I catch my own, and then I edit the mistake out, which is like a tree falling in the forest with no one to hear it.

As if there's enough time in the day to point out all of the mistakes on this board...

Worrying about typos on a forum is just an obvious sign of your age.

Typos and bad grammar displayed anywhere are like having 'I'm a complete idiot' stamped on your forehead.

I was about to do a parody thread of this, but it's already a parody so no need to be redundant.

Sadly incorrect.

Unless you actually believe the gene pool has been corrupted. The world has just changed. Between common texting vernacular and 'auto correct' mistakes nobody worries about is so much any more when chatting or messaging. Except grandpas.

And fwiw, I'm 40 and know how to write cursive, something my kids won't be doing much of, either.

The world (or at least America) is getting fatter, too.

Should we all just let ourselves go?

Language evolves. Modern electronics and ways of communicating will force changes. Go with it. Of course, there are also dumb asses and always will be.

And speaking of evolving, sooner or later natural selection should take care of some of the fat farks.

So, tennessee? I guess I should have asked you how you felt about the Scopes trial before bringing up evolution.

There's a difference between:

(a) gradually mixing in new words and alternative spellings (the way language has historically evolved), and

(b) a wholesale abandonment of the rules of grammar for textese, or whatever it is that some people post on forums.

Using friend as a verb is language evolution. Posting "its all good" is just lazy.

I know what you mean, but it's all good.

YMMV.

Says you. But I don't see changing the rules of grammar as being any different as long as the intended recipient has a clear understanding of what is meant. And it appears to me that the typical forum poster, facebooker or texter who was brought up with this stuff has no problem with it.

So will you be getting a tattoo to commemorate this milestone, like The Bieb?
