Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Frame sizing and dims

Hi all. New to these forums, been thinking my new bike maybe a little small for me. Whats the general thought around here on sizing?

Been looking at the Argon 18 Krypton (2010 model). Got a Specialized Roubaix Elite Triple ATM. which maybe a touch small for me, its a 52 (top tube is 537mm) I'm 5',9.5" I've seen a good deal on a used Medium Krypton which they say has a 555mm top tube. The Krypton measures as a 54-56cm frame.

Ta.

PS, where i struggle with the Roubaix is big hill climbs. Just cannot get out the seat without feeling my knees right up against the handlebars.

can't tell you anything about fit without seeing a pic or video of you on the bike. without that, the standard responses will be to go pay a couple hundred bucks for a fit.

What is your stem length on the Roubaix? It's possible you just need a longer stem and/or longer reach handlebars.

Hi, Stem is 90mm. Had a good ride out this afternoon. Did a solid 70km (only 3 brief stops for a sip of water. Managed all the hills from the saddle, but i found towards the last 15km my back and backside hurt a little. Could just be me getting used to it again. Been in MTBs for a looong time. Maybe the saddle could do with being 10mm lower. I felt my hip rock once but that was just in the last few mins.

Since i re-measured this afternoon, I’ve been informed by the wifey that I’m only 5’8.8” which puts me right in between most small to medium frame sizes. 52cm frame felt good and managed to really put some power down in the hills.... But i did feel rather over the front wheel. Is that normal for a Roubaix?
