Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Looking for knee friendly pedals/shoes

I hve some arthritis in my right knee.. I play tennis and want to get back to my bike again.
What pedals are most knee friendly..?
Also, what is the diffeence between lateral and angular rotation. Do only Time pedalsoffer both?

I like Speedplay pedals. They offer the widest range of rotation I know of. I cannot use SPD, as they do not allow enough rotation for my duck feet.

I use Speedplay frogs(MTB Pedal) on my road bike. Lot's of play and I can walk into the store for a Grape Nehi without clomping around.

I've had seven knee surgeries during my fifty year bicycling career. I've ridden with many different shoe/pedal attachment systems.

None seem better or worse to me - it all depends on YOU setting up ALL the seat and pedal adjustments to minimize knee stress for your particular physiology and riding style.

I have suffered a lot of discomfort when I didn't get the adjustments quite right. Then, after spending some time on the adjustments, the same pedals/shoes are very comfortable on four to six hour rides.
