Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Touch up paint

Anyone know where to find touch up paint that matches with bike frames? I have a few chips on my fork And top tube that look awful. Does cdale make anything like this?

Also does anyone else use any kind of cover up for cosmetics?

I use automobile touch-up paint. I've read that some people buy model paint.

I remember when I actually cared about dings on my bike and went to the store for nail polish. I spent probably an hour trying to figure out which was the exact red to match my bike. My then girlfriend (now my wife) was super pissed with me. It took her all of 5 minutes to finish her nail polish shopping.

When I got home, it was pretty close, but not perfect. Now, I don't really care.

Its so easy to get the exact match and the paint is cheap. The industry has a standard - PPG. Either ask the manufacturer the code or find it yourself. The paint books are online or take your bike to a body shop and ask to see their paint sample book. You can order the paint online

I found this isn't always true...it can vary based on the way your frame was painted. I discovered this while looking for touch-up paint for my Interloc. I contacted the company and they no longer had any and couldn't give me any sort of paint code. I called a local auto paint store and they said I could bring it in and they could help me try to match it. As soon as I walked in the door, the guy said "Oh...that's gonna be tough". He said my frame had been shot with two different colors...a silver undercoat and then a close-to-royal-blue metallic top coat. So for touch-up, there was really no way to get the silver undercoat without great attention to detail and tons of time. So we got as close as we could with a standard paint, he added a few things to it and I brought it home. It's too dark but I reached the point where the time invested for touch-up became not worth it.

If I had to do it all over again...nail polish.

Don't forget that the color changes as the bike ages, too.
