Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Is this bike legit?

I just found a seller on eBay who has multiple frames and components up for sale. I am interested in one of the bikes, but am apprehensive after reading all the conversation here about counterfeit and stolen bikes for sale on the web. Has anyone had any dealings with the ebay seller "buy-nowus"? The frames look for real and he has several hundred good feedbacks, but I've looked at the pix of the counterfeit bikes shown elsewhere and I'm not sure I'm good enough to tell the difference.

Here's the link

Didn't post the link initially because I am new to BikeForums and wasn't sure it was allowed. Here it is ...

OP, did you do the math? Are you fairly sure that buying all of the parts separately will definitely be cheaper than buying the bike at its listed MSRP?

And don't forget the warranty: you'll want a receipt of purchase if anything should happen to the frame.

I'm planning on moving all my Campy parts over from another bike. I just need the frame and couldn't buy a Campy Cannondale even if I wanted to.
And ... my LBS tried to get me a frame from Cannondale. They are all sold out of 2012's and who knows when the 2013's will be available. The only other option is to buy a whole bike. Then I can sell the parts on eBay!

Coming from the Ukraine? I would not trust it or him.

That's what I kinda figured. Too bad, though. The pictures certainly look nice. Thanks to those who replied!

Not that I wouldn't trust the seller per se, they do have a solid feedback record, but man.... Ukrane? That's a lot of miles and time between the two of you if something should go wrong. A derailleur or crank, maybe... but a bike frame is way too big & expensive for me to take that gamble.

better deal than one you posted.

But I'd skip it as well. How would you warranty it if it has a defect or isn't up to your liking? over $1000 is a lot to spend over the internet on a used carbon bike frame

Not sure I really trust the feedbacks. Better than nothing I suppose but I would not want to fork that kind of case away to the Ukraine.

They certainly don't look stolen as he has multiple sizes of the same frame available.

I've seen a few interesting items from the Ukraine and if they have decent feedback I think the risk to you as a buyer is very low. I don't really see how you they can scam you.

You can list as many sizes as you want if you don't plan on shipping anything.

How would you avoid negative feedback doing this?

Yeah, I'm sure they have a fantastic consumer protection program.

I'm not sure why I'm defending this seller but whatever consumer protection program he offers is no different than any other seller of used goods on ebay.

The reality is ebay favours buyers over sellers and there is plenty of protection available through ebay, paypal and your CC card company. The transactions he has completed are public and there are numerous transactions with US buyers. If one was concerned you could contact a few of his US buyers and ask them how their transaction went.

It doesn't smell like a scam to me. I've bought one non-bike item for around $800 from Germany once and didn't have any problems.

Seller is legit, outstanding feedback. I would avoid though, you would have to deal with custom duties coming from Ukraine.

Feedback is not very protective.....
https://alan.blog-city.com/ebay_feedback.htmListen, the guy may be legit, but why take the chance? Do you really think that if a scam occurs you have any protection? There are more scam operations originating from the Ukraine than one could count. Seems silly, buy local, know your LBS. Better deal all around.

There are lots of scams I'm not smart enough to explain. I may not know how I'm going to get screwed but to be safe I just choose to avoid it.

Fair enough, although you could get scammed just as easily buying/selling in the US.

I avoided this seller because the prices didn't seem to be particularly great and shipping time was long.

I would say less easily and with easier recourse that traveling to the frikin Ukraine for satisfaction and ending up a victim of some crazed ex KGB run gang of scammers.

I sell and buy on ebay all the time, 1st thing I check is their feedbacks, he has some decent feedback on high priced items. But I don't recommend buying international, since it takes a long time to resolve a problem if something goes wrong also the tarif that associated with buying international.
