Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I started this past July. Got a track bike/fixie on July 7th and rode that around for 15-20mile rides. Then I got my first road bike in the beginning of August, finished my first century 2 weeks ago I've been super addicted to riding! I've had a busted knee from soccer in highschool and made it worse from a car racing accident last year (on my formula mazda) Cycling has definitely upped my cardio big time and made me alot more fit.

I'll be working on a weight lifting regiment coupled with spinning classes over the winter to get ready to race for next season

Age 41.
Had on and off periods with bikes all my life using it as "one" form of fitness training to supplement another sport.
Dedicated myself to just cycling the last 3 years.

I am quite jealous of guys like gnome who started at age 12 and never stopped. But that's the way things went with parents who thought bikes were unsafe...

As it is:

57yo

15 years cycling, including 11+ without owning a motor vehicle.

It's taken me around the world more than once to places I never imagined I would visit, enabled me to achieve things I never thought possible, and in the process found me a great wife who shares the passion.

18, been riding since 2008. Definitely wish I'd raced before this year, but I can't really complain.

36, been road cycling for 4 years now. Prior to this, the last time I rode bikes was back in the early-mid 80s when I had a GT Pro series and Hutch Trick Star II bmx bikes.

I'm 42.

Rode BMX seriously until 16 when it became apparent I wasn't going to become a pro.

Picked up a mountain bike in 2005 and started riding to get my weight under control. Started getting really serious in 2009 when I bought a Cervelo as my "I survived Afghanistan" present to myself. Started mountain bike racing in 2009; started road racing this year. I'm down nearly 100 lbs (204.2 this AM) with a goal of 178.

I'm older than most of you, faster than most of you, crankier than most of you, and probably have more miles in my friggin legs than 99.99% of you.

That being said, you can all bite me.

I've been riding forever but I would say dedicated in 1979.
I used to keep track of the miles but now it just the miles on the latest bike which is a 2009 and has over 30,000kms.
