Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Speedplay Light Action on Craigslist

Hi All--I am looking to purchase my first pair of clipless pedals and have found a pair of Speedplay Light Action Chrom-molys on craigslist. The guy has owned it for a couple of months and has put roughly ~200 miles a week into it. Should I be worried that there are so much mileage on them? I know cleats can get worn easily as well as the springs in the pedals can become weak. Below are links to the some pictures. He is asking for $65, please let me know what you all think!

Thanks!

cleats probably need to be replaced at 3000-3500 miles. mostly these pedals don't wear out for >20,000 miles.

Jesus!! I am so glad i bought cleat covers for mine! I'd spend the 115 on Zero's and forget Light Actions.

IMO i think so. I almost ordered Light Actions and was super bummed out after I read all the internet reviews. I don't race, but I do ride hard and I like the peace of mind that my cleat isn't going to come flying off my pedal just because I try to rip apart a hill... keyword "try". Same price basically and you know your shoe isn't going to come flying out.

Also, The adjustments of the zero and the light action are the same with the exception of float on the light action. They have the full 15 degrees and not adjustable. The zero float can be set. Float is the amount of heel swing right to left with the ball of the foot is in a fixed position.

I have the Zeroes and I feel like it's so easy to unclip. This is coming from someone who's had 16nm Keo Blades before.

I cannot imagine on how EASY it is to unclip on the LA. I probably won't feel safe sprinting on those. I've learned to adjust on my Zeroes now so I'm more confident when sprinting.
