Specialized E5 S-Works HALF PRICE
I can buy a specialized s-works frame (no forks or seatpost) for 465 EURO. I'm not sure whether to take the plunge, buy it and over time build a dream bike or, just go out and buy a mid range bike. What do you guys think?

I agree - how much time. As you are building it up and time goes by your dream bike may change. Plus is that even a very good deal? Half price but that full price included the fork, which wont be cheap to replace, and a good CF seat post which also isn't cheap. And does it have the headset that was also included in the original frame? In the US that frame for 05 is $900 and you are talking about needing to replace like $400+ dollars worth of stuff. Not that great a deal IMO.

Time isn't an issue with me. I won't have enough for a complete bike untill another 6-8 months time. No headset or forks come with the frame. From looking around I can get an E5 frame with fork, seat post and headset for 1300 Euro.

Well at todays exchange rate he's looking at around $603.00 US for the frame. Figure a good fork, like an Easton EC90 SLX, is going to run you around $340.00 US. Then add the headset (FSA $70.00) and seat post (Deda Blackstick $140.00) and you'll be in the $1200.00 US range.

after the fork and seat post you'll be adding components, wheelset, bars, saddle, etc... you're probably going to be spending well over 3000 when it's all said and done. yikes!
