For some the internet is like therapy, a way to be all things to all people. Bikes fall into sinkholes, friends crash & burn on steep descents, it's all there. Much easier than just riding & quietly enjoying the sport. No one notices when you do that.

If I had 3 friends DIE I wouldn't make light of it on bike forums. And we all decided the sink hole didnt Happen and I said it to gain popularity on the Internet. It worked by the way, my Facebook account is blowing up and I have a date tonight with a paramedic.

no seriously, if I had 3 friends die on bikes I would probably never step over a bicycle ever again, at least not one with any CF parts.

You already acknowledged that you were trolling on this thread. Just ride your bike and enjoy. There's no reason to make up stuff just to get people to respond to your posts.

"Bad comparison. CF bicycle frames have only been popular for about 20 years. So you should compare their longevity to steel frames from it's first 20 years as a popular material."
Yes, and how many of those steel bikes from the 1890s do you still see around today? Very few. Meanwhile there are still plenty of 20 year old carbon bikes still around today.

Not sure which statements are more ridicules, these or the ones by the LBS in the OPs story.

btw, check out that video on smashing carbon/alum bikes earlier in this thread. I'll bet that a carbon bike won't do well with a glancing blow from the side. The tests they did looked they worked well with the stresses that bikes are intended to take, in the direction that the blow is expected. I'll bet that an unexpected blow from an odd angle does more damage. And I love my carbon bike.

Great, though I'm stuck indoors now. I've got over 1,000kms on it.

I did see the video and you are right. That is why I still have my steel bike, just in case....

My bike is designed to take the types of stresses that are most likely to happen in the real world. The head tube is reinforced with kevlar, and the dropouts aren't. It's made to have a good chance of surviving a crash, but it might fall apart if a herd of elephants did jumping jacks on the rear triangle.

crapon only has to last until Dec 21...
wonder how it will hold up under a massive solar flare/tsunami/earthquake/meteor induced firestorm...
come to think of it... how does it fare under the dripping sweat of riding rollers/trainer in your bombshelter/safe room ???

Here's the link for the Walmart Schwinn below Interesting. Represents the evolution from Al to CF. oddly enough, I couldn't find this bike on Schwinns bike site here.
https://www.schwinnbikes.com/bikes/ro...asc&order=name
The great rise of CF continues. I'm sure Klein was greeted with lots of 531 love.

Uhmmmm... My Line Seeker CF race bike that I'm restoring is 40 years old (1972 build date)..........should I wear a flak jacket, neck brace, elbow and knee pads when I finally get it back on the road again and ride it for the first time??
BTW, it was definitely a rider and not a wall hanger, judging from the wear and on the original components and how much road crud I cleaned off it. The PO was still riding it before he sold it to me.
