Pet Peeve - Add Yours

I don't see a pet peeve thread. Here are 2 of mine:

1. People who call a stock bike with some tweaks (like a slightly longer or shorter stem) a "custom built" bicycle. Sorry, if the frame was not made to measure for you, it's not custom.

2. People who are perplexed to hear that I don't participate in cycle charity event rides.

RT 12-12-12 02:54 PM

Pet Peeve threads.

I KID YOU!

1. Dog walkers who think because they are on the side of the MUP/road/path that their 20' extendo-leash isn't a hazard.

apollored 12-12-12 02:58 PM

Drivers who dawdle behind me and when I move over to let them pass me, still dawdle behind me:rolleyes:

Overbearing and patronising people who talk over me and dont listen to what I'm saying.

Hypocritical politicians who say violence is not the answer and then beat up other countries.

Cyclist that litter

Why no charity rides? 100 miles of cops stopping traffic for you. That's worth the money to me, especially since it goes to charity. Unless they interrupt your race training.

Nothing against charity rides. They are generally for a good cause. I even have done a few. But the big name ones are too crowded for my taste. And some of my acquaintances think I am not a 'real' cyclist because of skipping them. That's the annoyance.

To counter this, I am thankful for motorists who are also cyclists as they tend to drive more carefully.

Editorials like this and the comments they inspire.

I feel like as a cyclist you can't win. You are either invisible and therefore hitting you is excusable or you are part of an arrogant herd out to annoy drivers who lack the confidence to pass you.

calamarichris 12-12-12 03:23 PM

Listed in order of peevishness:
1. When I lose my temper and leave a dna specimen on cellphone drivers' windows after harrowing close calls. I always tell myself "never again", but just when I least expect it, adrenaline jolt. :( Happily, their distraction has so far prevented every one of them from noticing.
2. Cellphone drivers who blithely drive into the bike lane, stare blankly at me as they pull directly into my path at intersections, and who at parties always say the same thing, "Oh those things are dangerous for the average driver, but I'm much more careful than that." :twitchy:

Hopefully now that I've confessed, I'll be able to control it better.

Nachoman 12-12-12 03:27 PM

True. Cellphone drivers are annoying. But for some reason the ones in the big, fat SUVs drive me more crazy.

canyoneagle 12-12-12 03:34 PM

1. Those big, heavy duty jacked up D-bag trucks with ridiculous rims and low profile tires, and a 4" exhaust, with engine tuning designed to produce black smoke, usually in cyclists' or pedestrians' faces. And the D-bags that drive them, usually on paved or dirt roads that my volvo could easily navigate. Grrr.....
2. Steady headwinds that feel like thick liquid when there's no apparent evidence of the wind in the trees or grass.
3. When people post in forums as if they are texting. i mn rly wtf is that about srsly

;)

Truck size is inversely proportional to penis size. Well known fact.

rumrunn6 12-12-12 03:56 PM

people who ask why don't I compete in triathalons.

my personal training is for my personal body transformation and health and I do not feel a need to compete.

Why not?

jsharr 12-12-12 03:58 PM

Cyclists that blow stop signs, ignore traffic laws, etc., making the general populace view cyclists as azzhats.

Cyclists that ride at night without lights. LED technololgy has made lights bright and cheap.

Chickenstrip 12-12-12 03:59 PM

When drivers gun it to get past me only to slam on their brakes and make a right hand turn, forcing me to slam on my brakes to avoid t-boning them!

danielrbaer 12-12-12 04:06 PM

Squirrels which become incredibly indecisive when confronted by an oncoming cyclist.

dmcdam 12-12-12 04:19 PM

Pedestrians who walk across intersections when the 'no crossing' flashing hand light is flashing. Then they look at you like you're the awhole for trying to make your turn (either in a vehicle or on your bike).

jtwilson 12-12-12 04:25 PM

Stop signs/intersections at the bottom of a steep hill.

Oh, but they can be quite amusing. Small engine + big ego = easily maniuplated
Hop on their wheel and watch them blow up before your very eyes. :innocent: Or, if you're not it the mood just drop 'em...

mustang1 12-12-12 05:29 PM

People who walk and text at the same time. They cant do both things well, so they do both things lousy, and slowly, and always in my damn way.
