Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Specialized Allez Comp vs Trek 2.1

Both are 2012 models and even money. The Trek comes with Shimano pedals and the Specialized does not. Both are a Sram Apex group. Is one significantly different/better than the other?

I'm seeing SRAM S350 on the Specialized and SRAM S150 on the Trek unless I'm missing something.

Nevermind, I thought we were looking at the current models, looks like specialized downgraded the crankset from the Sram to the FSA for 2013.

Bikes: Surly LHT, Pashley Guv'nor, Pilen Sport, and other stray pups

Of course, the Specialized will be faster because it's red & black. Other than that, they look like peers.

So is it just an apple to apple comparison coming down to what color I like best?

Buying from the same shop? Maybe that could be the deciding factor. Which shop would you rather be coming back to for service, upgrades, etc. BTW - I'd go with the Trek, if for the only reason being that I think that green color is amazing.

wow, that trek's color scheme is the same as my high school/college. Too bad it has SRAM.

I'd pick Specialized because I think its brand name sounds cooler.

Which fits better? Note that small specialized bikes have very aggressive geometries - I.e. very long reach due to very steep seat tube.

All the 58s fit almost the same. I'm 6'1" and more leg than torso. Just about all of the bikes I've ridden seemed about 1/2" too long. A shorter stem and I'm good to go. I'm not sure what happened with the pic in his add, but it was a 105 group on the Specialized instead of the Sram. The guy said it was a backup bike and he was upgrading and it was never ridden and was the odd bike out. Maybe 75 miles on the bike. It looks nearly show room new. Next to no wear on the cranks and basically new tires. Plus I like the satin black paint better than the gloss black / red paint.
