Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

We had a decent weather week this past one and this one's shaping up decently as well.

Here are two pics, one of the road I was riding and one of the bike with flat tire waiting to be picked up because I was too stupid to put my saddle bag on!

I'm 44 years old (maybe I'm starting to lose my memory)

Bad week thought I just a pulled quad muscle but it appears to be my back acting up and have been off the bike since Monday but still no relief. Concerned since I have had multiple back operations but hoping just some nerve irritation. Going to see a doctor this week to check out. Wish me luck.

Good luck, Rubester. Off the bike for any reason is a bummer, but your situation makes my whining about weather seem , well, whiny. Let us know how the doc's appointment goes.

Good job, LC. Matte black sure is purty. That is quite a drop, but you kids under 40 can pull that off

I planned on taking my first century this weekend (a 3x33.3 mile circuit century), but wind put the kibosh on that.

Thanks. I was told by some guy this weekend that I had no saddle to bar drop. Of course the same guy had all of his excess di2 wires wound up and electrical taped to his downtube.

Not my best week: 92 miles. Crashed on Saturday ride and needed 11 stitches above my eyebrow. Young lad in front of me lost control on some mud at the side of the road, and I ploughed into his horizontal bike at 30mph, going over the bars and landing on my forehead. I think my helmet took the brunt but it seems like my Oakleys or the helmet caused the cut above my eye. Young lad got away with bruises and scrapes to his leg, but the guy behind me wasn't so lucky and will be out of action for a few months with a separated shoulder/clavicle and torn ligaments.

I'm glad you are relatively okay. I have a question, did you have your glasses inside or outside your helmet straps? A friend of mine had hers under her strap and ended up getting some plastic surgery. Ever since then my glasses are always ouside my straps, I want them to fly off during a crash.

Outside the straps as per the rules of course! They stayed on as I pretty much landed face down. I lost one of the nose pieces, which also caused a bit of a scrape to my nose and the left lens was very badly scratched. Hard to tell what really caused the gash between glasses and helmet. Helmet is also cracked right through at the front.

Well there went that theory. Nice to know that the helmet did it's job.

Hello everyone, I realize I'm over 4 months late to the game....

I made a new years resolution to ride 1200 miles this year. The only caveat being that I'm only riding on my hour lunch break during the week!

Starting weight of 228lbs, goal weight of 185. So far I'm down to 208!

Strava link:
https://app.strava.com/athletes/615329

I'm fairly new to cycling, and my short term goal is to fit 20 miles in an hour.

pjdizz, you used your first post in this thread. We are honored. If you are up to it, I'd be glad to add you to the chart. This is not a competition, but a motivator. If you have Strava'd all of your rides, just read the first post for submission information if you'd like to participate.

Hello RT,
Yes I'd like to sign up late for the motivation challenge!

I'm not certain however, on what additional information you need.

My age is 28, starting weight of 228. My goal for the year is to ride 1200 miles (all on my lunch break at work). My target weight is 185.

Thanks for your consideration in adding me!

Here is my Strava page:
https://app.strava.com/athletes/615329

I'm a little behind track on my goal, hoping that the nice weather will get me back on track!

YTD Miles 339.7

I'll add you, but if you want historical weekly data in your sheet, I will need you to do the math back to Jan 1 or whenever you began riding. Otherwise I will start you at your YTD total.
