On another note it was a beautiful day for a ride, and I did my longest ride in quite some time.

I really need to get my stuff together for this thread. I weighed myself after my ride yesterday and was at 211, which is the lightest I've been in 5 years and probably since high school before that. 185 is still a long way off, but it's getting closer.

I should keep my fingers off the keyboard. Having dropped below the Clyde threshold, I promptly went back above it again...
92.2kg = 202.4lb
102km = 63.75 miles
I can only put the variance down to dehydration/rehydration factors.
Machka and I did a tough hike (the trail/track/rock climb was, unbeknown to us, classified as Very Difficult) on Saturday, and we are still nursing sore quads.

Yay, I'm in the top 5! Have a few charity centuries planned, so hope to hit the 1/2 way point a little early

Wow, our total miles for the last 3 weeks have been insanely consistent. 1,887.51, 1,887.89, and 1,885.74

Rowan, as long as there's pizza, I will always be Clyde-worthy. Pizza advertising is the only advertising I am not immune to.
Way to go, Fondo. We are one-third of the way done with this year.
Oompa, weather is improving, but my feet are not. Get out there and kill the miles we missed during the extended winter. They are guessing snow for Weds. Go figure.
I am going to see the chriro today, so taking a rest day tomorrow.
Glad to see 10Wheels' knee thing wasn't really a thing.
Thanks for the cool snaps, LC. Black bottles on that bike would be the bomb, but would also heat up your water on the longer rides.

I have a feeling my mileage is going to be really low this week. So far I only have 81.8 miles. Today around lunch my joints started to ache like crazy, went for a short 30 mile ride this evening and I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to finish. I think I may take a couple of days off the bike, go for a short 10 mile ride on the tt bike Saturday to check it out then hopefully race on Sunday.

I have had to downgrade my mileage goal twice already. If I stayed at 7,500 miles, I'd ache all the time.

That ache sounds familiar - time to back it off a bit? If you were here, you'd not have a choice -_- Not only am I tired of driving to work, I am tired of black ice after the official start of spring a month and a half ago.

Somehow, my corner of Minneapolis dodged snow last night. Areas to the east got hit hard enough to knock out power, areas to the south got in excess of 6". Still have to wait out the long weekend, though, as there's a chance of precip each day... yay, the wonderful weather of May!

This morning I discovered in a weird and timeless way that I am too fat for this sport. Ok, I RE-discovered why my fatness and this sport are intertwined.
I bought my first pair of Levis shrink-to-fit 501's in 1977 for $14.95, a 32W/36L at the time. Through the years I have tried Lee (made for older men who don't exercise), Wrangler (made for cowboys, with the rear pockets being spaced too far apart), Lucky (made for people who have never used a rotary phone) and other models of Levis. The truth is, I must have the button fly - a zipper will not do. My denim habit is a four pair every ten years thing. All four pair of the last batch of 501 (pre-shrunk) wore out within a month of one another. The rear pockets became weak, and a deep bend would have resulted in a rather embarrassing public moment. I sent them to my sister, who made jean purses out of them and sold them, making back what they cost to buy ten years ago.
The last purchase in 2003 was right on the cusp of an unannounced style change by the Levis folks. The 80's/90's 501 had a tapered cuff and fit really well. They went to a straighter leg and baggier butt, but hey, wait a minute you guys. You already make the 505 and other stupid models that are for people who need a 'relaxed' (I call it lazy) fit. Why ruin the 501?
So I planned and did my research since I am 48 now and no longer a 32W/36L. Got me two pair of 38W/36L last night and washed one pair. They came out perfect, and the feeling of a rigid denim, washed once, brought back fond memories.
Of when I was wasn't fat.
It all changed when I was 19 and went into the Air Force - technical school in Denver (at what was then Lowry AFB). For midnight chow, we'd walk through hip-deep snow to get to the chow hall and nom our protein until six months later I had gained 40 pounds. 200. That's where I am now. Those 32W/36L's stayed in my closet for a long time as a motivator, but then I got married and everything got lost, because that's what happens when you get married.
For the past 10 or so years, I have been able to wear whatever I want to work. This means, literally, a long sleeved t-shirt with a concert tee over it, cargo shorts and maybe a sweatshirt. My daughter is convinced I wear the same thing every day, and aside from color coordination (of which there is none), she's correct. Y'see, the cargo short is a wonderful piece of apparel. As long as the cuff is below the knee to some degree, it's all good. The baggy-ness of the pant is not specific and anything within a wide range of baggy is comfortable. Belt? No belt? Who cares? Your untucked t-shirt hangs low to conceal the answer to this question.
So this morning I put on my freshly washed 501 stf jeans and wore them around for about 5 minutes.
No. Nononononono. This will not do. Timidly, I enter the bathroom, hit the light and lift up my shirt to reveal the horror. This is not how I remember jeans fitting me. While the fit was right (40W/36L would have been like a tent, and 36W/36L would have been like stuffing sausage casing), the look was not. What we have here is a muffin top, a look that the cargo short disguises very well.
Time to take action. This is not an exercise problem, this is a dietary issue. While my weight goal remains the same, the ferocity with which I approach it has been doubled. I love my jeans - no one else makes a decent button-fly.
Game is on.

I applaud your new found ferocity. Of course you realize this means less pizza and more climbing Peregrin??

Indeed. I need these jeans to fit, otherwise my denim investment collects dust on the rack. I may ride Peregrine at lunch today. Commuted this morning and shaved a good 3 mph off my average speed with maladjusted brake pads -_-

The northerly winds today kept me off of the NW-facing Peregrine front side. I did ride into the wind for the better part of 10 miles to get to the Centennial Speed Zone, which faces south. Hit all green lights and probably could not have stopped if I wanted to at a yellow. Still only came in 29th, but third fastest overall time this year. Whoever leads on this segment was either driving or had a wicked 40+ mph tailwind and guads the size of Howitzers.
You must have more than 50t on the front to get anywhere on that segment.

I'm hoping the wind dies down later this afternoon. I want to get 30 miles in after work and doing it in this wind would suck.

27 miles with a bunch of PRs. I'll take it https://app.strava.com/activities/52185213 I'm at 60 miles for the week. All I need is 40 miles this weekend and I'll break into the triple digits. I don't think I've ever done that before.

No ride today - boo. What started out as a bit of yard work ended up being: removal of 3 bushes, transplanting of 3 lilacs and removal of 14, yes - 14, trees. Still need to buy a pickaxe and take care of the roots in the next few days.

244 miles this week. Sent PM to RT. I was just looking at my rides for the week on Strava. Throughout the week, the distances went down at first but so did the pace (went from 37 miles/17.7mph to 28 miles/15.4mph). Same thing happened this weekend. Did 50 miles on Saturday at 16.5mph, then 43 Sunday at 14.6mph. All rides had comparable climbing elevation (between 3000'-4000'). Silly legs, don't you know not to eat jelly?!
