Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

all good suggestions.

i usually put on sports highlights muted and listen to music. i may throw on some quick and dirty comedies like Big Bang, Family Guy, Fresh Prince, or something. those usually fly by.

Updates for this week:

No scale, so stick with 216 pounds (I don't think -- or at least hope -- it has gone up since last week).

Distance: a paltry 43.39km or 27.12 miles.

I'm at 144 miles for the year. Most of that is on the trainer though.

Pigster - please note whether you gained or lost a pound by posting the number, or are you just incredibly light? Thanks :-)

Buffster - I have no entries for you so far. Trainer miles count, so please forward numbers to this address each week to make them count!

Only managed 99.4 miles for the week. I wasn't able to ride Friday - Sunday due to having to help my mom paint and do miscellaneous work to one of her rental houses (out of town). It sucks but have to help the parents when they ask. They have certainly helped me enough in my life.

Mom comes first :-) You know the deal.

I tried to get back on the road before my self-imposed deadline of Feb. 1, and ended up with less than 30 miles and inflamed the left wrist injured in the crash. Wrapping it this week and going to try not to buy anything out of boredom while out of the saddle.

I have been injured / sick way too many times. Rushing never works. Stick with the trainer until you feel comfortable. A crash now would not be good.

Hey Cellie, is there any way to add an RSS feed to this thread, like Road Bike Marketplace or any other forum?

EDIT: Ne'ermind, those are sub-forums.

Much cooler than subscribing to entire forums or using the subscription tool for a thread.

bikr, if you want to get in, please read the original post for submission instructions. Of all ways, monitoring this thread for individual statistics is the most difficult. I'm going to have to lock it down after the end of this month though.

Hrm, starting to wish I'd gotten in on this. 1118 kilometres from 1st to 27th of January, but no way I'm maintaining that rate!

Considering it is summer down there, why not? :-) Get me your individual weekly stats by the 31st with any weight goals you may have and I will add you. Submission details in the original post.

The wrist is not healing well. I don't think it is broken as the ache is dull rather than sharp. A little swelling, no bruising. Going in to get it looked at.

Anyone have experience riding in a cast if it comes to that?

Hate to hear that. Have you been wearing a brace?

Also, life wouldn't be complete if I didn't say this. Trainers SUCK!!!!

Yes, wrapped pretty good. I have injured this joint before, 20 years ago and 3 1/2 years ago. Casted the first time, sprain the last. Thinking this is a sprain since it was fine for two weeks prior to my sleeping accident. Icing today, wrapping in between, hoping for the best.

Trainer would work hands-free.

An RS week for mileage -- 41.67km or 26 miles.

But a good week for weight loss -- down to 97.1kg or 213.6 pounds.

We're back in our home territory now during summer, so hopefully, the distance totals will start going up again... and the weight keeps its downward trend.

Good effort. 132mi and 3lbs lost for me. Had a lucky escape in yesterday's group ride when I crashed on ice at 24mph. Helmet took most of the impact and I ended up with just a minor graze to my elbow and a few rips in my clothing. Bike was undamaged, which is the main thing!
