All sympathy to those combatting low temps. I wish I could be there with y'all... but you know how it goes.

I'm sick of the lack of cold weather this week. for god's sake it's supposed to be winter. I've put away all my short sleeves.

Garmins have thermometers built in. A bit more expensive, but a lot less clunky.

Much less accurate though. I rode Monday when the temp was 27, Garmin showed 41.

You tweet the same stuff you post here, which is probably the same stuff you put on Facebook. Why bother?

So I survived the Weekly Wednesday club ride. 50 miles. 4 riders. Temp was 11F at the start, I think 15F by the end. Medium winds.

It was cool.

I agree. I also found that my helmet forced them to ride low on my nose, so I had to mouth-breathe the entire ride.

Fail.

I'm not on the copy-and-paste plan, as at least one poster here is. At any rate, it's mostly a different audience.

Is it even possible to breathe through your nose at those temperatures?

All it needs is a nail-in slotted cleat and you are set.

Maybe you CAN go back.

I'm going to need some new shoes this spring, I'll have to see who carries Giro locally and see what the fit is like.

8ºF when I rolled out, 15ºF when I returned, 25 mi, 2500 vf, about 2 hours (when it's 10ºF and I'm climbing a lot of hills that's about how it goes). I was cold rolling down Mt. Doom for about a mile + and then my hands took about 7 miles to really warm up. My fingers get cold, I keep making fists inside the gloves with the hand warmers. Once that chill on my fingers subsides (my feet were fine) I'm essentially warm and toasty for the rest of the ride.

It took me years of freezing my Pcad ass to learn how to dress for this stuff. Now I know. I'm not telling any of you Freds my secrets either.

patentcad 01-23-13 02:16 PM

The only thing dumber than cycling nostalgia is Whoossshy. Cycling nostalgia is arguably far less annoying.

Dear Mr. Pcad,

It only took me about a year to learn. I was toasty in my snowsuit today.

VV

P.S. Are you still taking guitar lessons?

LesterOfPuppets 01-23-13 02:20 PM

Mmmm, sweet, buttery guns.

WhyFi 01-23-13 02:21 PM

That's about the only kind of buttery that I don't like.

datlas 01-23-13 02:22 PM

Is this econ 101?
