Well done jones. Carrie Nation. Was she from Ohio?

SA. I view alcohol as something that can be enjoyed in moderation. I had a single glass of whiskey that lasted me 90min to drink. No buzz. I enjoyed the complexity of the flavour (coasting shout out). I understand that there are people who are better off abstaining at all times. But in all honesty I've been "drunk" one time in the past 7 years and that was this past Sunday night.

this. Most of the time when I have a drink, I have just one. And if it is a decent whisky I'll just sip it over about an hour. If I'm feeling particularly adventurous I'll have a second drink.

I have an addictive personality. I cannot have a drink and leave it at that, if I like it. Luckily I don't like alcohol. I used to drink socially but now I can't be bothered to drink stuff I don't like.

I like meat. I eat too much of it when I eat it. So now I avoid it too.

That storm in the Midwest is not hitting the east coast until tonight.

Getting ready to ride...it will be in the 50's. I can even break out the short fingered gloves!

This is cruel, but my thought is that she needs to get laid...which means her husband needs a drink....make that several.

I'm not sure if this is the correct soap box for you to be standing on.

See, it seems like clearly you can drink it, and enjoy it for the taste. Also don't get me wrong, I don't think it should be banned or anything. I just think modern society embraces, and encourages drinking just a little bit too much. This is no surprise though, our society encourages a lot of things that has no redeeming benefits to us, as well as several harmful side effects. I clearly abused alcohol to help forget about my problems. I used it for self medication, something a lot of people do, and I did it far too many times. What I should have done was take gsteinb's advice and see a counselor. So instead, I wasted $2k, and lost my license. Clearly you aren't a drunk, and you enjoy drinking for the taste. I don't get it, but I do think you should be able to enjoy it if you want to.

RUOkie, this thread moves too fast for me to keep up with. I'm so sorry to hear.

Colorado is considering a bill that would allow kids between 18-21 to drink with parents in restaurants and bars. Like we need to open another can of worms in a society where we cannot even keep adults from misbehaving while using alcohol. This law would help no one except the liquor industry and maybe the service industry. If something bad happens around here, it is after midnight, and at a bar or a liquor store, and someone is under the influence. I agree, those who like to moderate and drink scotch like a good coffee or wine with dinner, more power to you. Some of us cannot moderate alcohol, and we should know who we are. The trouble is, alcohol becomes a more invasive habit and is passive in its manifestation for most. This statement brought to you by years of experience on the drinking side of the biz as well as working in it. Real life stats, not a university study.

THIS conversation could go on for pages and pages and challenge the Helmet thread in A&S for epicness.

Can the guy that got a DUI less than a month ago shut up about society's unhealthy relationship with alcohol already?

Thanks RTDub. I see what alcohol can do to people. The only alcohol I've had in my house for the past 17 years is what would be consumed at that time. My wife was an alcoholic and drug abuser. But she was part of the 10-15% who are. The rest of us (Earth People or normies) don't have issues with it. We think it is Differences in brain chemistry. But we really don't know what the difference is.

Regardless I Appreciate the good thoughts and prayers of everyone here. Hug your loved ones. Call a friend that you haven't spoken to lately. Don't do what I did and wait for a tragedy to rediscover your friends.
