I was going to ride to the Worlds, but driving will allow riding in the 40's, instead of starting out my ride in the 20's.

How's your head feeling this morning, RUOkie? Gin was an instant mind eraser for me. A few T and T's, and I was in blackout hell.

RUOkie 02-02-13 08:14 AM

A little foggy but ok. I think my definition of too much to drink is different than most. Mine is 3+ drinks. I had 5. No sickness or headache. Certainly no blackout.

Obviously you've been drinking gin everytime you post here then. Now I understand ...

I'm forced to start out on a somber note this morning. :(

I am deeply disappointed in you hi-tech young'uns for letting me down. It has come to my attention that for the past year there has been a commercially available techy gadget that the tech world has been going gah-gah over, yet no one here has yet brought it to the discussion table/braintrust meeting that is the Addiction thread. For shame!!

I had to read about it in Thursday's NYTimes. I speak of the Raspberry Pi.

Sure, here come the excuses and alibis. Unacceptable!!

Some heads will roll. Now accepting applications for new ATMs (Addiction Tech Monitors) . . . the old ones have let us down. :notamused:

Possibly.

Meat tenderizer would be about the only thing that could possibly do any damage between your ears. Now you understand.

It helps to have a smart phone. I can see why it's an unappealing idea. I wasn't a texter until I got a Palm and had a full keyboard.

finally i weaned off of it enough that smoking was so sporadic, that when i'd have one, it made me sick. ever since the last time half a cigarette sent me to my hotel room, hovering over a toilet thinking i was gonna hurl, i haven't had much interest in having another.

When I stopped drinking, I gradually lost touch with my drinking buddies who all smoked as well. Now that I am only around earth people, and most of them are non - smokers, quitting should be a little bit easier.

Texting creates less pressure to respond immediately and avoids the possibility of awkward pauses.

Outside of romance, it's also handy that if two people are at work and can't talk most of the time it's much less distracting to those around to send a text, there's no need to wait through the often-very-long voicemail entry speech, and the recipient can check it much more quickly and discreetly than sitting through THEIR end of the VM entry process.

when I left my brother in law's house, my 10 y/o niece asked me if she could get my number from her parents so she could text me. It is worth it just to keep up with her and her brother.

Meh. T9 is plenty fast; you just don't do enough of it to get good.

Speaking of tiny computers, I bought a new gopro last week to replace the one that's lost somewhere in the weeds at summit point. It uses a Micro SD card. When I pulled it out of the package I thought the card was the adapter that it came with, until I realized the tiny piece of plastic the size of my pinky nail was the card. 32GB on something that small. For $30. Mind. Blown.

I figured you old fogeys wouldn't be interested. That and like the other guy said, Raspberry Pi is weak. You want a small machine? Intel's NUC or mITX is the answer. This ain't Hong Kong, there's no reason to save a small bit of volume at the cost of tremendously weaker computing.

Anything that can be done with transistors will be, for a price that rapidly approaches $0. Damn do I love technology.

I quit drinking three years ago. It took two years after that (a year ago) to be all the way off of cigs. I missed my drinking buddies more at first, but they are distant memories now as the only place they hang is that time capsule at the bar.

It's the best way to keep in touch with young folks. Their world is moving too fast for them to slow down and chat on the phone with an elder.

Plus, now days you can dictate text messages, alleviating all that typing when a txt will be a little lengthy.

FWIW, even for me at the older end of the younger crowd (30), I find it easier and quicker to actually type the message than dictate it.

Now we're talking . . . sounds like you and Lester are going to get two of the new ATM openings.

(Although that "old fogey" remark is going to adversely impact your compensation package.)

A short message maybe, but a long message - no contest.

And take it from me, at 30 y/o you're still a pup, a looong way from old. You got your whole life ahead of you.
