Don and I were on that ride a few years ago and this detonated:
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y11...armsnap908.jpg It's ELS (Expensive Lightweight ****). If you ride it, it will break. In both instances, we were just riding along... |
Fortunately, today nobody was hurt. I banged my arm and shoulder up a bit a few years back when that crank arm exploded.
|
SA broke one of his weight weenie cranks and was apparently not going all that hard when it happened. He could come here and tell us about it, but I do not think he will just yet.
|
When that DA 7800 crank arm failed I was only putting out about 300 watts going slow up a steep upgrade. Today Don hit a relatively minor pothole and that Zipp high flange track hub (he was on the track bike) just detonated. Track wheels aren't meant to absorb pothole impact. What is Shimano's excuse for that crank arm failure?
Like I said, it all breaks. These are two of the most reputable makers of high end bike crap in the world, and these two components failed under relatively benign stress. Just wear your helmet and have your major credit cards ready at all times. Shimano did nothing for me on the 2 year old crank arm, I am highly confident Zipp will step up under warranty on this (approximately) one year old wheel. Don is pals with the big Zipp rep here in the NE, that should help. |

I've done that... lots of gorgeous girls who didn't want to talk ahead of time and cleared out immediately afterward. Wasn't any help.

Doc, not sure if you ever smoked, but it is harder than quitting drinking, at least i my case. The psychologies appear to be linked, but they are quite different. I still cannot tell you why I no longer smoke, I just woke up one day and had enough. I wasn't even trying.
The physical addiction may be a little similar, but the level of lying to myself about smoking was layers deeper. Not only does tobacco go well with beer and liquor, it goes even better with coffee. And I love coffee. I still can't hear A Day In The Life without wanting to brew a cup of Java and light up. |

Duh. Hence the road cycling Addiction thread/syndrome. Although come to think of it, I was addicted to cycling before I ever tried to quit drinking. Maybe I should have quit cycling too.
I'd agree that AA and other 12 step programs can suck. Except it's the only approach I know of that has allowed many millions of people to successfully contend with their addictions. It's not easy, my guess is the real success rate for AA is pretty low. Worked for me. I can't tell anybody what they should do, I can only tell you what my own experience was. |

i'm not an aficionado, i don't have a favorite brand.
however my preference is the older and sharper, the better. and besides goat cheese, i mix it up a lot. pears with honey, prosciutto, and gorgonzola... omg. brie or camembert with fresh, warm french rolls *homer simpson drool*. dammit. i'd punch someone for a chunk of manchego right about now. this vegan thing is going to be short lived. |

Do you think you can beat coasting's record??
i haven't been very strict about it, just careful. i've cheated with veggie pizza, a few unlucky shrimps, and an unfortunate salmon. oh, and some grocery store sushi. i've refrained from gorging on fried chicken though. five more weeks. i'm not asking for much, i just need to be able to breathe in my new riding leathers. |
You ate a whole salmon by youself? !!!!
I think I could use a fried chix break. Maybe even an embargo against all deep fried foods |

Sorry LowCel. The Chatfield Worlds here. Competitive group ride. Must have been 100 riders for the 10 am lap. The 9 am lap was civil, with maybe 50 of us.
