RIT is a very depressing campus. The campus was actually designed for the desert, and the buildings are built to funnel wind for natural cooling. Like one needs natural cooling in the middle of winter. A coworker attended RIT and commented on how brutal certain areas were, like sustained 40 mph winds for the entire winter.

I thought about going there. Why the hell did they build that design in upstate then?

In other news, after my 20 minute power test bumped me to 251w, I did 2x20 for the first time today. Holy crap; I thought I wouldn't be able to get back up to 251w at the start of the second interval.

I want to thank you all very much for the condolences, they are certainly appreciated. We had the services yesterday, it amazes me how many people loved my dad. Around 300 people showed up for the viewing / funeral. My mom is taking it pretty well. I am my mom's only child, my dad has a litter but I'm her only one. I have been by her side non-stop for the past ten days. Honestly, I haven't even had a chance to accept what is going on yet.

I'm not sure if I gave the details but we took my dad off of life support at 4:05 pm on Tuesday. He took his last breath at 9:12 and at 9:13 pm his heart stopped. I was there with him the entire time holding his hand and he went very peacefully. He was the best man I have ever known. He was not always the nicest and he said exactly what he meant but his heart was as big as a house. He will be missed by many.

To make things a little tougher my mom opened up the glove box in their Rav4 today and found Valentines Day cards that he purchased the day before he got his headache. He bought one for my mom, one for my wife and myself, and one for my sister and her husband. The cards were perfect!

Dangit LC, now you got me cryin' in the crowded coffee shop.

Bah Humbug 02-16-13 01:22 PM

Well, LC, you put my sore quads in perspective.

I'm a software engineer and I went to RIT. The brick city look is very dull. Thankfully they have been building a ton of new buildings with new designs. Mostly glass/stainless with little brick. A lot of the new buildings are highly sustainable leeds certified. Mostly due to their college of sustainability.

Weather is just brutal in the winter. Lake effect snow.

Well, that does look better than it did when I visited. I went to RPI, so it's not like it was much warmer where I went. ;)

just over 2hrs on the SS. A nice mix of multitrack, dirt/rocky roads and real pavement. 32deg and windy. When I got to my friend's house to get my truck, he fixed me a "spot" of tea which was much welcomed.

In looking at schools with my son last summer, RPI was my #1 pick for him, RIT #4. He picked SUNY New Paltz, and convinced me it was the best spot for his undergrad. The kid impressed me in knowing what he wants out of a college, and I think he has made a good choice.

Very sorry LC.

Sorry to hear that your dad has passed, LC. Happy to hear that he touched many.

Odd way to make an omelette. I prefer pouring the beaten eggs in to a hot pan, pushing/lifting the edges, a quick flip, apply cheese/toppings (sautéed in another pan) and slide/fold out of the pan and on to a plate.

I'm happy to see that this thread I started years ago now has become an online community that provides so much needed support in the lives of those it touches.

If nothing else, this underscores that the Pope of BF is doing God's Work.

This Strava nag screen is about to make me go back to Endomondo or iMapMyRide.

I imagine it'll go away after the 22nd, so I'll try to wait it out.

surgeonstone 02-16-13 08:49 PM

21 degrees, 20 mph wind, snow. Cold ride.

What is this nag screen you speak of on strava?? I don't think I have seen it.
