Wow!!
Excellent info . Thanks everybody.
I really enjoy reading info from current and past racers. The charts are great as I can get a better grab of things when I can see the comparisons.
It's obvious to me now what way I need to go. I always have to smile inside when I hear guys talking about a few grams here or there on their bikes. I can't imagine what I would have to spin to make my #16 bike weigh #15. Seems a gram today must cost as much as they did back in my much younger and foolish years.
I was thinking about buying a coaches services for a few months to help dial me in for my Death Ride. I'm thinking now I might be better off buying some nutritional help instead. I couldn't be more frustrated!
I know of no one, save my girlfriend who eats as well as I do. I have been really conscious of what I eat for 2 years now. I don't ever eat anything form a box or can. I shop in the outer ring only at from the super market. I don't eat carbs, sugar or salt. I'm really good about eating the right kinds of fats. Most of my meat I kill myself. (wild game, game birds) I do buy fish and chicken from the store. I don't eat dairy much at all except for eggs. Don't drink beer, I do how ever have a couple glasses of wine at night. And yet I'm still fat. I guess I just eat too much. I allow a couple of cheat meals a week and even then I'm pretty aware of what I'm doing.
The initial reason I started riding was to have a low impact way to exercise as I have hardware in my leg and ruptured discs in my back along with a blown rotator cup. When I broke my leg (double compound fracture) and had pins put in it I gained and have never been the same since. I live in pain every day and eat to burry my pain.
If only I could keep the weight off that I have lost I would be fine. I have gone up and down by 20 lbs twice in the last 2 years along with several 10 pound ups and downs in the last year.
I was pretty happy with my gains on my bike until I started running with the big dogs. They say I'm doing great for where I am and encourage me but I have so long to go. I just need to not be my worst enemy!

One major benefit of HIT is that you can do it without bonking as you might with longer more traditional training sessions while dieting. IMO HIT can be especially useful to prevent fitness loss, and even gain fitness, while losing weight at a significant rate.
