I caught some perp trying to steal my bike!
So I decided to commute with my 2012 Bianchi Via Nirone today. Those familiar with the model know that it's a pretty flashy bike. I never intended to let it out of my sight so I never really bought anything better than a thin cable lock for it. So it was 11 pm - I was at the Mission in SF and decided to get a taco. I locked the bike outside onto a tree. I bumped into some friends inside and they noticed that I was keeping my eye on my bike. It was tough since customers kept blocking my way. As I was finishing my second taco, I saw a person get suspiciously close to my bike. I saw it in his body language; he was after my bike and was reaching into his coat. I ran past several customers and screamed 'HEY!!!' I met him face to face, and when he realized what just happened, he began to run. I shouted 'yeah you better run!' He was actually significantly bigger than me, but I guess he knew I was out for blood. I commute in street clothes, so he probably didn't expect the bike owner to look remotely intimidating. He never even had a chance to take out his cutting tool. What a crazy night.

It just shows that you can't be too careful. The old rule was that the lighter the bike, the heavier the lock needs to be.

"He was actually significantly bigger than me" - just another reason to pack a piece and just kidding. How about a bike alarm?

So you never saw a "tool" of which he could steal your bike with? How do know he was a bike thief? Maybe he was simply admiring your bicycle when out of nowhere this tiny yet extremely aggressive man starting yelling at him. Poor guy.

So how do you know he was going to steal the bike. I would have been all over it admiring it.

Perp. For some reason that word makes me
My bike ain't worth no taco and/or polite conversation with friends in a crowded public place on the business side of midnight.
...but then, I am a one man wolf pack. A loner. A rebel.

Yeah, sorry... that was me... I was reaching for my phone to take a picture of the $1,000 bike with a $5 lock to post here on the "Pics that made you say Dahell?" thread.
(I ran because he was spitting taco bits on me as he was screaming with his mouth full.)

Bike thieves deserve whatever they get if they are caught.

Why would you park a bike worth more than a hundred bucks in the Mission after dark?

Somewhere there is a man complaining that he went to get a taco, and saw a really cool looking bike. Right when he was about to get his camera out some little man started going nuts.
