Here's one of the more epic Honda build threads that has been running for 3 years now as of this coming Sunday, with a nice index:

Joel, everything above that you said is correct. I just ask you to consider this. I tell him none of it matters, and make no further post. He comes back with another assertion that technically wrong is technically right. He can't let it go. I have three choices: 1) Keep my mouth shut, and let him believe the lie; 2) Ignore the technical issue completely and once again just reassure him that all will be well; 3) Correct his error (I think very gently) and also reassure him it doesn't matter. Unlike earlier in the thread I am making no preemptive comments; just replying to direct inquiries. In truth any of the three possible responses would be correct depending upon the responder's personality. Different people are made differently both giving information and receiving it. Asshattedness is a relative thing. There is no absolute, only relative to the person making the judgement. Is it any surprise I feel about many folks here the same way they feel about me? I shouldn't think so.

So I will sum it up. You want to talk about how lovely your wheels are or will be. No comment from me except maybe a "yeah, man, you go dude!" Or possibly a "mango, mango, mango." But you want to assert black is white. I will tell you are wrong and why. Like it or not, that is what you get.

I understand the dilemma. I've wrestled with myself about it many times, albeit on a different topic and different forum. In this case, Bianchi is working with a talented wheel builder. She made some suggestions as to what is perfect for him. We don't have enough information (well, maybe reading through the entire thread it can be gleaned) to really contradict her. And then, if you choose to present more info, you really need to take into account the knowledge base (and interest in learning) of the person you are wanting to address. Sometimes you find an audience that is highly interested, other times you end up on a tangent that doesn't get where you want to go, or the audience doesn't have the knowledge based required to really understand what you are saying. Or a mix of those.

Sometimes it's wise to let a matter drop after having your say and testing the waters, so to speak. Sometimes you'll find that the person you are addressing is genuinely interested and engages the discussion, sometimes there is no interest to go where you are suggesting for any number of reasons.

Consider that sometimes it really is best to let it drop after testing the waters, or it may be best to say nothing at all.

Personally, I found the entire discussion interesting, though I don't have the knowledge base to add to it. I have a local wheelbuilder here that I trust and he takes care of this for me. He's built up 2 wheelsets for me thus far, and I'm extremely happy with the results. Much like Bianchi and his relationship with Jude.

It's been a while since a BF thread turned in to a beat-down.

that does help, thank you. IF i remember what she said correctly, (which I'm not sure I do) I'm doing a 24F/28R with a 2x on the front and 2x rear with a non cross (Dont know the technical term) on the drive side

So here is the build:

HED C2 build
Black CR ray Sapims 24/28, which will be swapped out with Super sapims when they are delivered
Chris king R45 hubs - color will be reveiled later :thumb:
Veloplugs
Black nipples

will run:
specialized ultralight tubes
Specialized turbo pro 23mm tires

SO EXCITED!! Thank you all for the help

Interesting. Below are my builds, which I've had for about a year and a half. Keep in mind I weigh about 230 in the spring and 220 in the fall.

HED C2 rims
Silver CX-ray spokes, 28/2x front - 32/3x rear
R45 hubs in red
Vredestein 23mm tires

These wheels are on my Lynskey R340 in bright brushed

I thought this pic was pretty funny when thinking about the "colored hubs with a few matching bits" crowd in this thread.

Just an FYI to those following this thread for the information it started out to be but dont want to sort through all of it, I left links to take you straight to test rides with info. Thanks Patrick for the suggestion!

It all started with wheel testing. And now we've come all the way to, "PIMP MY GHETTO RIDE!":roflmao2: Where's that green monstrosity pic that BDOP had?;)

gc3 03-21-13 04:27 PM

Have... have you never seen a mango before?

bianchi10 03-21-13 04:49 PM

Sorry bob dopolina....that just doesn't work for me. It looks like I threw on extra stuff I had laying around the garage.

Andy_K 03-21-13 04:54 PM

It needs blue hoods and a blue saddle.

bianchi10 03-21-13 04:57 PM

I dont like black and blue together anyway.

When i went to my LBS yesterday i asked them some questions i had about my build with jude. I felt it was ok to ask him, because I am a VERY regular customer their, they all know me and they knew I was testing wheels with her and building with her. Their main wheel builder was telling me that it is not a good idea to have the rear wheel 2x AND radial laced. More importantly, it will void the warranty with Chris king if anything happens. This had concerned me so i did some research. looks like he was wrong. the R45 is the only Chris king rear hub though that allows for radial lacing and will not void any warranties.

Jude told me she will start my build on Monday next week. So excited now and cant wait to see them on my bike without having to use PS!

Too bad. I actually think it looks pretty good. I think your kit would tie it together (kinda like how a rug can tie the whole room together...)

The UHC pro team rides a similar color. They had black/white frames with mango hubs. They chose them as they stood out and made it easier to find each other in the pack.

Did someone tell you this? Their matching team kit isn't enough to find each other...so they stare at hubs? Seems, um, odd.

PatrickGSR94 03-23-13 02:21 PM

Might make it easier to find one's bike in the midst of a crash pile-up or something. :p

But I agree that those black/white bikes with mango hubs look HAWT!!
