I've never watched Cycling Central, but it doesn't sound like I've missed anything. Is it for roadies only?
|
Actually, it's repeated on Tuesday at 3:30pm.
It's not just for roadies; it tries to do a bit of everything. |
I'll have to look out for it. Maybe then I'll know what you guys are going on about.
|
It's not a great show, but last year when it first appeared, I was like: "wow, a weekly program that's actually about bikes!"
|
I don't think they even have anything like that in the US. I did see a show a while back on MTB unicycles. Now that's gotta hurt!
|
I find the behaviour of other motorists interesting. On my last run out and back on my dragstrip (amost 10 km, dead straight once out of town, dead north with some steep and long rollers on it) I zeroed my speedo pushed reasonably hard to average 29.5 km/h. So this evening wanted to see if I could beat 30km. Way out averages uphill by 100 meters or so, so averaged about 25 at the turn around. Coming back going hard it was going to be a close thing. Now, just to set things up, once I get into town, there is a 90 degree left onto another road then a 90 right straight away onto the road I live on. Anyway years ago I bought an enduro bike took it for a ride out this road then came back and hit that first left slow and lost the front and crashed it. There's something about that corner that just spells bad grip. Anyway, back to the story. Average is creeping up to 30 but it's going to be a close run thing. So I had to attack this skatey corner to make sure I made the 30. So pick a good line and crank into it, and what do you know front decides it wants to try and have a wash. Which wouldn;t have been quite so bad if there wasn't a 4wd coming the other way in the other lane. So I'm sawing away trying to keep from going over while trying to turn inside the line of this 4wd. I thought no worry, plenty of road for him to move over to give me room. But what do you know, he doesn't deviate a millimeter. I could have went right underneath him and he wouldn't have done a thing about it. Thankfully I gathered it up and got inside him by about a meter, but still I was stunned. I can only assume he didn't see me. But WTF was he looking at? Maybe it's just me since I started riding motorbikes on the road before I started driving. But I check up each intersection I drive past, since on bike, you've got to do that to stay alive. So it's become a habit. But I take it this isn't a habit most people have. Which is crazy. The roads are a lottery, that's for sure. [Edit] Yes I know it would have been my fault if I had of ended up paste. And I ended up averaging 30.1 :D
BTW, had a great day today otherwise. Lent a mates Ducati MS4R and took a lovely lady on a great ride. Only got pissed down on once to boot. So yeah, had a good day. :D |
I don't think everyone thinks to swerve when they find themselves under pressure; many people
just slam the brakes on and hope for the best |

I reckon (and I may have even done this myself), that in a possible confrontation between a car and a pushy, the driver has in the back of his/her mind: "fuk it, it's only a bike; nothing will happen to ME"
This is why they pull out in front of us so often -- they know we have brakes, and if it comes to the CRUNCH (ha), we'll obviously be the one coming off second best. |
Yeah, sad but true. :(
Just need to figure out a way of making it so that running over a cyclist does more damage to cars. Maybe cycling clothes with roadspikes on them? Foot long spikes on the head tube? Got to be something. :p |
Man, I've been so angry at times that I've fantasised about doing all sorts of things, such as
(1)sharpening the alu lever on my Zefal frame pump to puncture car tyres, (2) carrying a pocket pull of 1/2" steel balls to biff at car indows, and (3) flying into the driver's side window like Superman at 50kmh, with both fists clenched, hoping to smash up the driver's head :D :p |
I see nothing's happened over the last few days... insulted our seppo mates again, played chicken with the moderators, slagged off Cycling Central. All systems normal and ready to rock for another week :)
|
Morning y'all....
Does anyone else think Mike Tomalaris is doing a Mike Moore from Frontline impression each week on Cycling Central?? Note to SBS: instead of 1/2 an hour of little bits of everything, show 1/2 an hour highlights of the Southport crit. BTW, Hitchy....did you see Guy Thompson fawning over the Keos? lol..... |

Was it ordinary like last week? Average...although they did actually show a tidbit of road racing. |

I'm so pissed off. Went to go racing with the vets on Sunday and the selfish bastards had moved the start time forward by an hour. Needless to say I was late, and in the end the fargin club captain wouldn't let me race. I hate having to smile graciously and accept my fate when deep down inside I wanted to rip his ugly face off and rub saxa on the wounds.
Fair crack of the whip, all he had to say was "Ya bloody drongo, get your number and hurry up", but noOOOOooo, he had to do his best impersonation of a fargin dictatorial despot having a bad hair day. Methinks he was scared of losing his huge $14 prizemoney. Tosser. |

But there is some hope. Older, crustier guys like me are doing our best to pollute and corrupt it at every opportunity. There's nothing like turning up on race day in a bland Gong Ride shirt from 10 years ago and giving it to the snobby pricks on their carbon/duraace/campy bikes and wearing the latest gear from the fashion houses of Paris and Milan. :) Besides, a quick g'day costs nothing. |

I was invited to just roll along at the back of D grade by another committee member which was a nuce olive branch, but I couldn't see the point or the fun. |
If it makes you feel any better, I sat home with a summer cold, a head that felt like it's full of concrete, and did no riding at all this weekend. At least you got out for the day.

Oh goodie, my ISP is finally back online. Slack bastidz.
Nev, the fixie thing is a definite inner city trend that's getting pretty big. I've sold a couple of fixies for urban use, but most guys want that grungy urban dumpster-fresh "aren't I edgy" look that usually doesn't mean getting a new custom bike. Willian Karstens who frequents the fixed gear/singlespeed board on this forum has a Thylacine Just1Fix. Cycling Central was okay I guess. Better than nothin'. Mixed reports about the Great Vic - my mate went on it and said it was cool and the queues weren't so bad - but man, 8,100 people, with many riding those crap "Great Vic" bikes 100kms a day? Ouch. Not exactly my recipe for newbie fun times. |
