Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

That's how I used to look not so long ago That's why I held on to the Gong Ride shirt for so long
I'll rummage around the house and see if I can find a bumbag or frame-sac or summint to ease the pain

We could always pump them up and turn them into balloon dogs or summint. One or two mounted on my helmet. A balloon sword tied to my right thigh, and a long stemmed balloon flower rising up from the seat post tube....

Yeah, as long as you do that on your way home. Same time, same place? Oh, what do you think of Jolt gum? Chewy with caffeine? 2 pieces = 1 cuppa. I'm ordering some, thought I'd get an opinion. Yes, you'll get a sample if you're interested.

I'm not into caffiene. I prefer beer as a beer substitute. But it sounds like an extraordinary step forward for humanity. Enjoy.

When you're on the last 20k from home, and need a little boost, you reach for a stubby?

No, I reach for my "brute strength willpower". Sadly I haven't seen the "brute strength" version stocked in any supermarket for about 3 years now, so I've had to resort to the "lacklustre" variant. It doesn't seem to do it for me.

I can't remember. I think a bit earlier would be a good idea this time so I can get down to Gosford at a reasonable hour. 7:00am would be good. Do the same(ish) circuit except I'll shoot off at the Turton Rd lights and head up towards Garden City.

mrwhite's avatar certainly is... controversial. The sig also confirms that the word actually is the "c" word.

I would have thought it was grounds for removal because of it could be offensive to others, especially females and minors. At least those on this forum have had to decency not to spell out the word.

Admin/mod on duty? Or blind? Or what?

Mod on duty but either Mr. White removed all the "offensive" bits
or I'm blind (it looks well, white to me, as in nothing there).

Glad you lot have got back onto something on topic like BEER otherwize
I was going to be forced to move this thread to the RECUMBENT forum or
some similiar banishment (I think winter cycling would be quite apropos).

Sorry to be serious, but I think I read in Bernard Hinault's poorly translated biography, that they used to give him champagne towards to end of some stages in the 70s!!! ???

Someone reported "mr white" and his signature/avatar and
it was removed by another mod (no not Koffee).

Avatar was first used by Neal Stephenson in his novel SNOWCRASH to describe
someones cyberspace appearance, similiar to Gibson coining the term "cyberspace" in his novel Neuromancer. I think Stephenson takes partial credit for coining that term (been a while since I read snowcrash).
interesting little sidenote, eh?
BEER forum? works for me. . . (no, not that watered down ***** that the sell to
ignorant seppos) give me a good Castle Lager, or Tiger, hell even a Fosters is better
than 90% of the american beers.

Marty

Yeah that'd work! not. You've seen the arguments at the end of the a good barby. You've seen the crapola that goes on in here. Mix the two together.... you'd only need one smily -->

Oh I see....now that I know what an avatar is!

Were some folk a bit sad they weren't nominated for the "biggest loser who spends all their time on the web instead of actually riding or racing?" award?

Any of us get a mention? lol....

"Worst use of rhyming slang"
"Most pages dedicated to Test cricket"
"Longest meaningless thread"
"Most vitriolic responses to moronic polls"

I got nominated for Best Signature - it was an URL to my blogsite (big deal) and wasn't even remotely clever. Funny thing was that I was leading (temporarily) the tally on the back of a few votes from Aussie Thread 'members'.

A blogsite is anything you want it to be. Think of it as a public diary. You spill your guts on anything that your little heart desires and someone, somewhere in the world might stumble across it and read it. You might even influence the way they think or live or do things. Hell, you could conquer the whole world with your hamfisted ideas about bike-riding beerfests!

This is the very start of my blog. https://laneclosedracing.blogspot.com...ling-down.html
It meanders all over the place, but is mostly ride related carpola.

Starting your own blog is made pretty easy, so even net-noobs can do it. Goto https://www.blogger.com/tour_start.g to see how it's done.
